LAW SUIT ENDED
A law .suit brought by J. W. Lew in
I against J. M. Thompson was settled
recently by passing deeds from one
side to the other and settling: the
boundary lines of the lands which are
~wned by the two parties across the
Waccamaw River from Conway, these
lands all being different, parts of the
old John N. Lee place, formerly owned
by the Brutons.

Last week \shile Mrs. Ellen Johnson
was in her garden picking soine
beans, in turning over some vines she
struck her arm on a rusty nail that
was in the fence, severing a vein. A
physician was called and stitches
were taken. At last accounts Mrs.
Johnson was getting on very nicely.

JOHN WHITE OUT
John White, a negro who was arrested
near Ciusey, S. C., recently
and lodged in the county jail under
charges of disorderly conduct and
perhaps other allegations, was allowed
hail last week by Magistrate W.
H. Chestnut. He had been in prison
here ever since his arrest several
weeks ago. He is a negro of Georgetown
county and his father4is a negro
preacher of that section with
churches in this county.
FAILED TO DIP CATTLE

Heritt were up in Magistrate Fred
Grant's court, at Murrells Inlet recently
for not dipping1 their cattle on
Sandy Island when notified to do so
by a livestock agent, L. C. I/ichicotte.
Jr. They all plead guilty and the
magistrate fined them in the sum of
$15 each for the first offense.

last week where he argued the

Bigham was before the court on
an appeal from the order of Judge
Shipp, refusing to grant him a new
tri ll on after discovered evidence.
The result of the hearing will not

The health of the community is

Rev. Frank Herring: preached at
Adrian Sunday, at 3 P. M., and a

had finished his sermon, Mr. Kelley
Tompkins, a substantial citizen of

We have organized a school imnrovement
association at Shell, for
the purpose of improving our already
remarkable school. It gives promise
of much success. Our ofiicers are as

Chestnut assistant secretary; Leon
Todd, treasurer.
We want every man, woman, boy
and girl that resides in the district to
co-operate with us. The only charges

the patrons of Shell school have any
desire whatever for a better school,
they will respect the association by
enrolling their names at once and
strive to improve the school in every

THE MOONSHINE
Last week The Herald carried a
story concerning the finding of some
moonshine and a bottle of Coca Cola
in a car which was being driven to
Conway by Monroe Carter, with Martin
Faircloth as a passenger.
Mr. Carter was in The Herald
oft'ice last Friday and said that he had
proof, and had so proven to \hc proper
authorities^ that the moonshine
did rot be'ong to him, and that he
knew nothing about it, not even knowing
that it was in the car.
Mr. Carter says that he is often
iskpd to bring men to Conway or to
other places, and as he is about the
only one in that neoghborhood who
owns an automobile, he usually con
sents to carry people from one place
to another. On this day Faircloth
asked him to take him to town, and
he consented, even though Faorcloth
had been drinking a little. On the
way to Conway Mr. Carter savs that
they stopped at a store and that the
clerk saw Mr. Faircloth put the moonshine
in the car, where it was later
discovered by the authorities.

In this issue M. R. Smith makes
his announcement as a candidate for
warden of the town of Conway.
It is well known that Mr. Smith ic
not running for this place on any particular
ticket. He is running entirely
independent of any candidate
now in the race for mayor, or who

and he will be independent of any
other candidate for the position of
warden. He means to make his racc
strictly independent and if he is elected.
