PUBLIC SALES
LAST MONDAY
A number of sales were made at
the court house door last Monday
by the Clerk of the court. The only
sale that was to have been made by
the sheriff's office, was called off by
those who had ordered it.
The Clerk made these sales:
A tract of one hundred acres, more
or less, known as the estate of Havannah
Buffkin, in Floyds township,
went off to J. H. Strickland for the
sum of $2,000.00.
The W. H. Rollinson place near
Conway went to J. D. Montgomery
for the sum of $3,200.00, subject to
a mortgage held by the Federal Land
Bank.
One acre at Daisy, known as
School House lot, went to Sherwood
& McMillan, attorneys, for the sum
of $376.00 the highest bidder.
The land of J. H. Carter, was sold
at the suit of S. M. McNabb and was
taken in at the highest bid for
$1,600.00.
This ended the sales for the day.

IN AMERICA
With the endorsement of President
Harding and the Governors of
the various states, including Governor
Wilson G. Harvey, a call is
going out to all American communities
to devote one week, October 914th,
to demonstrate the advantage
of building homes, and better homes.
We understand that cities, towns,
and villages all over the country are
responding to the call, and organizing
to this end. Will Conway organize
and join in this movement,
which we believe will mean much to
our town and community?
It is to be hoped that a meeting
will soon be called to consider this
matter, and it ia hoped that every
man and woman will respond and
do all they can to make this campaign
a success.
The National Committee has already
been organized, and we want
a local committee in Conway to work
with the National Committee.
Yours for Better Homes,
J. C. SPIVEY.

LOST OUT BY HEAVY MAJORITY I
UNDER RECENT ACT OF ;
THE LEGISLATURE "
At the 1922 session of the Genera! J

$107,500.00, out (if which three 1
bridges were to be built as follows: I
(1) For bridge across the Great n

the sum not exceeding $75,000.00.
(2) For a new bridge at some

commissioners between Star Bluff

(3) For the construction and re- ?
pair of a bridge near Nichols, on |
Lumber River, the sum of $7,500.00; t
this amount not to be used until a .
like amount should be put up by

GREAT HIGHWAY
PLACED ON MAP *
The Stonwall Highway is a thing a
of great interest in this section of t'
the State just at present. It is e
among the important moves start- v
ed within the last year that will t
teiul toward the progress and im- ?
provement of Horry County and her 1
seaside resorts. The seaside resorts *=
are among the things that caused the
highway to be planned in the first
place. The highway itself, when
completed, will be one of the things
that will make Conway and the Hor- *
ry County resorts at the seaside,
come out to a great extent in population
and business. I
The highway has been logged c
mapped and marked out by the Um- c
ted States Automobile Association, *
according to a folder printed by *
them and distributed far and wide s
last week. 1
The folder contains the advertis

county seat of Horry County, which ,,

Conway has a delightful summer v
