W. J. Singleton of Enterprise was
in Conway last Friday and left at the
Herald office a sample of the tine
watermelons he has raised this year
on his farm in Waccamaw Neck. This
melon weighed forty pounds and was
one of a variety that ripened several
weeks later than the other kinds planted
in the crop. His crops at Enterprise
this year have been destroyed
by the floods. Recently it was reported
that his loss was about 50 per cent.
Now his loss appears much worse, as
he will lose about all. Effects of the
heavy rains were worse in the river
than further back in the country.
