Too court of Magistrate \V. II.
Chestnut was engaged last Wednesday
in the trial of tho State v- \Teumie
Muggins, on a warrant >\vorn ?u>t
by^ Nettie Skipper, charging k!?
driving of .an automobile on the public
highway and driving a motor vehicle
without the lights required b\ lav,
Both sides were renre < ted 1 . :ittorneys.
A jury was cabled in t<? 0:1.-- on the
facts and a number of the .uisinrss

and buggy, taking* a si *k chi'd U the
doctor. It was nitrht an 1 there were
no lights, at ihe time. 011 the car t.tat
was being driven by the defendant,
the state.
The car ran ioio ihe buggv and
tore up the wheel, .and the pro.4,ecuiri>c
testified that 'he accident injured hrr
^ personally. This took place in the
month of November, 1021.
After hearing all the testimony
which was varied and contradictory to
a- great e\ten* on the two sides, tlie
jury returned a verdict of guilty of
driving without the lights provided by
law, and the defendant was fined in
the sum of $25, which he promptly
paid.
There were .a number of witnesses
summoned and the case attracted
more than the ordinary amount of attention.
Or the part of the defendant, testimony
was adduced to the erect that

O ip reason why the case demanded
some .attention, move than the ordinarv
magistrate case will do, is bpcause
there is much complaint of fast
and careless driving at this time ion
the good roads recently completed by
the county. Many people complain
that machines are driven without
lights; that they take all of the road
at times; that they do ftot seem disposed
to uive the driver of a slow
team the time that is necessary to
