Cooper held the inquest. last Friday over the remains of Eliza Gore, nepro woman, and her daughter. the wife of Josh Gore, both of whom had been killed and murdered by Josh Gore on the evening of October 20 near Socastee. The jury was composed as follows: F. G. Owens .7. A. Jones J. G. Brown T. A. Lee S. T. Jordan J. F. Outlaw. They found a verdict which was in accordance with the facts, that these negro women came to their deaths at the hands of Josh Brown. The testimony taken at the inquest was as follows: ? John Brown shot my mother, Emm.n Brown, and my Grandma, Eliza Jono Gore. Joph Brown called mv ma out in the yard. He tried to shoot her. She caught the pun barrel. He took the gun away from her and shot her. My grandma was in the kitchen, he tried to go in the kitchen, she shut the door. He knocked the door open 1 with gun. He threw her down in the peas, he then drew the gun on mr. He run and rrot away. T passed hv where my mother was. When he shot ma she hollered. He told grandma to open the door, she would not. He knocked it open and told my ma he ^hot Mr. Van Turbville. I don't live here, Josh Brown anc. ma lived together. I did not hear any gun after T left home. I did not know grandma was dead until this morning: I don't know whether Josh and Mr. Turbville had anv 1 trouble or words yesterday or not. Josh had a single barrel breach loader. We believe this was one of the best meetings ever held. The attendance was good. With one exception everyone was present that was to take part on the program. We were very fortunate in having Dr. renter, wno gave a iaiK on "Tithing," also in "having Mrs. Boatwright of Mullins, who gave two splendid talks. The ladies of Aynor outdone themselves with the splendid picnic dinner served on the grounds. The woman's work throughout the association is taking on more interest and the outlook is very promising.
