HARRELSON-BELL GO. MAKES ASSIGNMENT 5ft*\ j . S. M. Allen is Assignee For Benefit of Creditors of Concern GOODS PURCHASED AT HIGH PRICES ? r-j.-'i Competitors Stocked 1 With Goods Costing1 Greatly Less and Could Undersell. _ t. Harrelson-Bell Company, a corpork ation formed for the purpose of conducting a mercantile business at Loris about a year ago, made an assignment last week for the benefit of the the creditors of the company. The position of assignee was first offered to D. D. tlarrelson, who holds some stock in tho company, or at least a member of lii^ family does. He declined to serve, and ?S. M. Allen, of Gurley, S. C., was named as as i i i y ? i mi signee in me ueeu 01 assignment, j ne store will remain closed until there is a meeting1 of the creditors for the purpose of electing an agent to represent them with the assignee. It is possible that some arrangement can be made with the creditors whereby the business will open again in a | wl-tiln miH in hiwinn^ i at the same place or some other location in the count.*. The main cause of the failure is thought to be found in the fact that the business was started when goods were on a rising market and the price of goods continued to rise while the competitors of t'ie establishment at I joris were stocked up on low priced goods and could undersell unless the Harrelson-Bell Company would sell at reduced prices, resulting in the business being cut down considerably. A. B. Bell is the president of the company and W. M. Harrelson, Jr., Secretary and Treasurer of the company. The stockholders are not more than six or eight in number. NOTICE OF DISCHARGE. ?
