WHITE GIFT CHRISTMAS EXERCISES Before a large and appreciative audience on last Tuesday night at Mie Baptist Church a very interesting program was rendered depicting in a very forceful slyle the annual exercises which lias become very popular, known as "The White Gift Christmas." The stage was beautifully and artistically decorated and the program was well rendered under the skilful supervision of Miss Lucy Spivey, who recited in a graceful manner a story of the play of her own composition. A vivid picture of the scene so closely allien with the birth of Christ, the shepherds at night with their crooks, the angelic host, and the miniature illuminated manner were beautifully portrayed in tableaux. j There were varied exercises by , the different departments and i many wfcre the envelopes containing money deposited in the letter box for the famine sufferers in North China, stationed on the platform. No one could -have attended thest exercises without getting a leal conception of the Christmas spirit. Some of the results of those exer- j cises was a check for $300.00 mailed ' yesterday to the famine sufferers / and a box of articles of clothing, etc.. for tho ornh:nv: nt. A'? you lnou, co-erku-ation has been in existence at the University of South Caro'ina, by act of the Legislature, since 189 1, and in the entire twonty-six years the state ha:; rr.ado no appropriation for a dormitory for women at the University. Notwithstanding this condition, the attendance of young" women tit the University has increased 200 per cent in the last few years. Hundreds of other young* women leave the state every year to obtain university training and uo.svcc.-s because their own university lui-s no provision for them. The ,su,te has splendidly equipped three institutions for men?the Umvcr.>ity oi South Carolina, Clemson and tVe Citadel. Why are the women of the state discriminated against? There has been a very lively i competition for tho prize and for the ; distinction which goes with it.
