Late-* on R\ !*a-dson returned to Conway by other means of tonveyan:e andstatedd that the car he drevs to the plate had bee> taken by A. M. Mills without his consent. Richardson stated that Mills as-ked him for the cur to go home with and that he refused to lev him use the ca-v as lie wo VI hav? to have- it to come ba?k home lr?. Later it was disocvered that the car was 'gone and next day th% Conway Motor Car Company received a message from A. M. Mills that he would bring the car back the following day. It is not generally known that about three years ago the Legislature of this State passed a new Ac: amending a Section of the Criminal Code making it a misdemeanoi punishable by fine or imprisonment or both, to use a horse, car, or ve^ hide of another person without the owner's consent and without intenl to steal the same. The reason for introducing an< passing this Act was doubtless found in a very flagrant cas< arising in Charleston about th< year before ths Act was passed Two or three negro boys n the Cit} of Charleston without the consen' of a orominent doctor in that citv took the doctor's fine touring ca out one night and drove it aroun< the city, and finally ran it into col lision with another car, and al most destroyed it. The Doctor in dieted the negroes for larceny of th< car but he could not make a cas against them for it appeared tha they did not intend to steal the < ?. but only to use it. It was alread; against the law to use a horse b; driving him out of the owner' stalls, but the old law did not pro vide for motor vehicles. The nev law, parsed several years ago mad it a crime to* use an automobile the same as it was to use a horse The punishment is severe. { USE "DIAMOND DYES" 1 fDyo right! Don't rink material.
