RAINS HURT TOBACCO j
? CAUSING LOW PRICE
Tt is conceded that ihe heavy
rains of last week injured the tobacco
crop to a great extent in
many parts of the county. Farm
ers who had bcon making fine
cures, after the heavy rains of the \
first of last week, found it impossible
to get a good color on the
leaves.
In consequenco of this the prices
of the product were much lower,
tobacco which would have netted
round forty cents, only brought
seven and eight cents, as the leaves

LAST WEEK SAW
UPWARD TENDENCY
Especially After American Tobacco
Company Began Buying
on the Market
There were large sales of tobacco
on the Conway tobacco market last
week. There was an average sale
of over two hundred thousand
pounds each sale day, this being a
conservative estimate.
Farmers came to town in large
numbers bringinng the best of the
crop thouarh in many cases the product
was injured to some extent by
the damp atmosphere.
The end of the week saw an upward
tendency in prices paid for tne
loaf.

week that the American Tobacco
Company's representative went to
buying tobacco. This buyer had been
here all of the time since the market
opened but for some unexplained
reason did not buy. His entry on
the market also marked '.V p
chase of a grade of tobacro t^at the
company has not bcon buying before.
This fact may have caused
the upward tend ncy in tro prices
here which wo- remarked by several.
