Following are letters, written by Horry County girls who attended the short course at Winthrop College this summer. Winthrop College, Rock Hill, S. C.,. June 11, 1920 Dear Home Folks. 1 am at Winthrop College for the Short Course. 1 certainly have eni 1 :i lumft (i lixl I n Imrn JUyUH II aim iuii v vi vv. just as much as possible. We have some kind of amusement every night as movies, parties and a musical concert. I think that was just grand. 1 went out to the poultry farm and learned a lot about chickens. I certainly did enjoy looking at so many little chickens, there were the most that 1 had ever seen at one time. Hut the best of ail wa-i the dairy farm. I enjoyed seeing so many cows, the cream separators and the way they care for the but tor and milk, they were so nice and clean with it. We surely do have n nice time with Miss Lydy in the Gymnasium. 1 have learned to save a little by making over old hats and clothes to make them look like new an ! nice as ever. I have also learned to make salads and salad dress iv and how to can chickens and vegetables. I appreciate the way people haw treated us while hero. 1 guess we will go home Saturday, but I a n coming back sometime if I e n. I will close, thanking you all f r your kindness. We played games and afterwards ice cream was served, we enjoyed that. \ There was some kind of amuse- ment almost every night. We had movies three nights and they wero good. I wont to prca?hing Sunday at the Baptist Church an \ heard Mr. Tucker. He certainly did preach a fine sermon and 1 think everyone enjoyed it. Dr. and Mr?. Johnson gave a reception la<t n'glit. I smoly did enjoy mys lr while there. 1 learned how to can different kinds of vegetables ano fruits, how to make salads are* salad dressing. We visited the Practice home and learned how to arrange the furniture. The first cotton blossom to be sent in to The Herald office from the now crop of 1920 came to the office last Thursday morning from the farm of J. It. Tucker, It. F. D.
