flashed the news here that the New
York cotton exchange ha 1 closed bo?au:o
of the signing of the agricultuial
bill by the president with the
Corner amendment included, Senator
Smith of South Carolina quickly call
2<1 a conference of the idiairman of
the house and senate committee on
igriculture and then introduced a
joint resolution to repeal the amendment.
This was done within a few
minutes and the resolution then sent
to the president for his signature,
correcting a very serious error on
the part of one of the clerks at the
capitol. Had it not been for the vigilance
and quick work of Senator
Smith serious damage might have y
resulted in the <' lay over correcting
this mistake. Senator Smith who
'a t yeai had his law passed providing

was an amendment to the wheat bill
