Schneider, nineteen-year-old
telephone operator, of Pontine, Mich.,
last Saturday night.
The confession came after several
hours of grilling by the authorities
of Oakland County, and in it Best
says he committed the murder by
pulling tight two knotted handkerchiefs
the girl took from his pocket,
tied herself and placed arcund her
neck, and that he did so at her request.
"She was discouraged about some
thing. She would not say what it
was. Finally she asked me if I
would kill her. She said jshe wanted
to die."
Best says he never mot the girl bo

her from her set pm-pose of ending
it all. He says she put her arms
around him and kissed him, begging
to be killed, saying she was tired of
life and wasted to die. At first, he
states, he only pulled the hankerchiefs
a little, but later put his
whole strength to the task after further
entreaties on her part.
Best when arraigned before Circuit
Judge Rockwell pleaded not
guilty. During the arraignment the
Court House was guarded, mob violence

WHEN TO CULTIVATE CORN
The best answer to the question of
how frequently corn should he cultivated,

It is stated that the two defenI

and had left the car in charge of
Lattirner as his driver to take the
family out to vide en Sunday,

Thc.o seems to be some question
; as to the real intention of the defendants
in going into the shop aft
the parts, and this will doubtless b:
developed at the preliminary hea' rtg
which may taiv'e place soon in
the magistrate's court.
