Montgomery, Ala?Organization of a strong financial institution in each cotton state of the South, the stock 1 to be taken largely by the farmers, all to be coordinated to form an expo?! cotton corporation to handle direct sales f the staple to foreign interests, was unanimously indorsed by the American Cott >n association. This action followed an address by Governor Dorsey of Georgia, who disscussed the plan he had developed for forming such an institution in that state, and which he declared, was entirely feasible, and if undertaken in every cotton growing state, would create a powerful financial financial link in permitting the grow er to deal more directly with the spinner. J. S. Wannamaker of St. Maththews, S. C., was nominated for reelection as president of the associatioon in the report of the commit- | tee on election submitted this after- i noon. A vote on the reommendation will be cast Friday afternoon. Other officals nominated for election in I elude: B. C. Powell of Arkansas, vice president; Harvie Jordan, Atlanta, secretary; B. F. McLeod, Charleston, S. C., chairman finance J committee, and T. H. Shackelford, Georgia attorney. In line with the adoption of the report of the committee on market, ing, and warehousing, which recommended a commission to make a study of national and forciin needs in the cotton world, President Wanamaker named: D. S. Murph, Wash ington, D. C., specialist in warehousing; A. F. Lever, chairman of the federal farm bank beard; C'aiencc Howe, editor of the Progressive Farmer; J. F. Dugger, director, farm extension, Alabama, and Harvie Jordan, Atlanta, to that board. His duties permitting. Gov. W. P. G. Harding of the federal reserve board will 'abo be placed on the com mittee, which is called on to report by June 15. Speakers included Reprcs^n tivc Heflin, Alabama; T. J. Shack'efovd, Athens, Ga.; H. D. Wilson, c mmissioner of agriculture, Louisiana, and J. R. Alexander of Scotts, Ark. At the mornintr session, the report of the committee on acreage and price recommcn le 1 that a minimum of CO cents per pound middling grade be demanded by the cotton growers, and urged the production of good crops in large quantities, The report was unanimously ad pled A recommendation that community warehouse movements be inaug urated throughout the cotton state? also was indorsed, together with a resolution indorsing the Comci amendment to the agricultural bil with respect to deliveries on future contracts. Montgomery, Ala.?President J. S Wannamaker of the American Cot ton association said that this association was the concern which fur nished a shipment of cotton to Cze vho-Slovakia, and that this was jus one small shipment, that the asso ciation had applications to furnisl 0,000,000 bales to foreign countries. Categorical denials were made J to reports current abroad and even I in sections of the French press that hotel accommodations, food and the transportation service were unable to "fill the bill" except at exhorbitant prices. It has been repeated so often that rooms were not to be had in Paris that the world doubtless believes it, ? -v ? ? *1 K A 1 hut JM. Duhamel, president 01 me syndicate of the general hotel industry, asserts that such reports are only a part of the campaign against France, possibly growing out of foreign opposition to various stands which the French Government took . in the peace conference. He says that the hotel proprietors' returns indicate that between 25 and 40 per cent of the rooms of good hotels are unoccupied, while completely reorganized staffs and, in many instances, thoroughly renovated hostelries arc awaiting patrons. Regarding prices in those hotels, M. Duhamcl says they have about doubled since pre-war days, but that the increase is in far less proportion than is the case in all other lines of trade. He is inclined to believe that the discrediting repoits emanate from Germany, who is anxious tc put her famed pre-war watering re so?-ts again on the map.
