I INDUSTRIAL SCHOOL NOTES The Horry Industi'ial School celebrated St. Valentines witli a six o'clock dinner prepared and served by the Domestic Science class. The tables, each of which were laid for twelve were decorated with pink carnations and ferns. The j lace cards were vari-colorcd heart shaped valentines and afforded a Social prelude to the dinner. Since some had to search through several tables before finding their place. Misses Maud Dawsey, Margaret Morris and Emma West of the class were dressed as waitresses and served the five courses with skill and ease. As the last course of this dinner was finished, Mr.. Morris who was toastmaster, asked for a toast to the Domestic Science class, which was given by Miss Bertha Morris and responded to by Miss Daisy Daniels, j Mr. George Taylor then gave a toast to the school and Miss Margaret i Morris responded. Mr. Garrison, the pastor in charge ! of the Aynor work, was present and j gave a very enjoyable talk to the ! student body as a whole. After dinner was over, the students gathered in the parlors of the girls dormitory and enjoyed a Leap Year reception till the sound of the Xell was heard which sent the boys to their dormitory and each girl to her room. Perhaps the most interesting debate that has been given in the Watson Literary Society this term was that of last Thursday afternoon or. Woman Suffrage, when Miss Isla Vaught and Emma West strongly defended their affirmative side against the able debates of Messrs. eo. Taylor, Harmon Dusenbury and Isaac Shelly, who spoke "with the trnguos of men," on the negative. Interest ran high throughout the debate and the judges decided after deliberation in favor of the negative. i ne girls ot the basKet bail team have been practicing with diligence lvcently and hope to play a, match game with some other team before long. . Rev. S. C. Morris, President of the School, attended the meeting of the Educational Commission of the M. E. Church, South, at Nashville, Tenn., last week. Washington.?For several days there have beben rumors that Admiral William S. Benson of Georgia, recently named head of the L'nited States shipping board vico John Barton Payne made scceretary of the interior, might not accept the place and that the man who would in this contingency take up the duties would be rear admiral Samuel McGowan, of South Carolina. It is stated that Admiral Benson is not especially desirous of assuming this work which is very ardous and might rather prefer some younger man for the place. His ability is not . in ttoe least doubted but it is recog! nized that in the present situation | it would tax the full powers of a very vigorous man to handle the vex jng shipping boand problems. Admiral McGowan would not difc* *uss the matter except to say that if he is asked to take up the work . lie would do so, provided there is real work to be done. It is not doubted that he will find plenty of >t, if Admiral Benson decides not to assume the duties of the position.
