SELECT THE SEED
FOR SWEET POTATOES
From time to time we have issued
1ettei*s regarding- the erection of storage
houses for the sweet potato, and
have endeavored to show the. importance
of proper handling of this important
Southern crop. We will deal
in this letter with the selection of
seed to increase the yield and reduce
the loss duo to disease by seed selection.
Potatoes are an important, food
crop and are surpassed in value only
1 * -
uy corn in tliis respect. There is no
food crop of the United States that
suffers so great a loss relative tr its
value as the sweet potato, which suffers
an annual loss of at least 50 per
cent in its yield.
There a re several ways to reduce i
'his loss, and one of the most important
ways is by fall sec! selection.
Seed potatoes should he selected fiom

potatoes grown from cuttings a e
