i . , ? EXTRA SESSION EXPECTED IN MAY < Early Reassembling of Congress Is Looked for by Officials FINANCIAL NEEDS CALL FOR ATTENTION ? i " I Peace Treaty May be Ready Soon?No Sign From President. "Washington.?An extra session of Congress before June 1 is believed to be a certainty by many government officials and members of Congiess, although their predictions are without the support of evidence to slow that President Wilson has changed his determination not to summon Congress before his return from France. Cabinet officers are known to believe that the session will begin in May, some expecting the date to be about middle of the month. As far a* known none of the cabinet members have specifically recommended any date to the President, but Secretary Glass is understood to have presented certain facts in regard to the government's financial situation from which the President may make his own deductions. Members of Congress remaining in Washington, particularly the Rcpub iicans, hope that the session will be called two months before the end or the current fiscal year, next June .'50, so ample opportunity will be given for considering appropriation bills that failed at the last Congress. Republican Leader Lodge, of the Sen ate, has sent letters to all Republican Senators requesting them to record their address of May 15 with his office, but this was said to be without significance. 'White Home officials said today if reports from Paris that the peace tieaty might he completed next week proved accurate President Wilson might return homo by the middle of Aprih No information regarding the probable date of approval of a treaty has been received at the White House. Berlin.?Aroused by recent criticisms of former Emperor William, regarding his flight from Germany to Holland last fall, Field Marshal von Hindenburg has prepared and published here a d. fen so of the cinder's action. After depicting the situation as it existed in November, caused by the weakening of the army, the doubtful reliability of the forces in the field and the breaking out of the revolution at home, the f old marshal writes: "The peaceful return home of the emperor then bacame impossible. Tt could only have been carried out through the forceful employment of loyal troops and civil war would have Veen added to hostilities with the enemy. Some localities in the South have soils badly infested with nematodes. On such soils, if the winter cover crops?except grain?are allowed to giow until the ground lias become warm in the spring thev are liable to attack by the nematode or oehvorm which lives in some of the light, sandy soils and causes root-knot of many crop plants and weeds. In practically all of the Southern States the nematode is inactive for several months in the winter, during which time it will not infect any crop that may he planted on the land. As the ground becomes warm, however, nem atodds resume their activity and will then attack the roots of any susceptible plants growing in the soil. Not only will the roots of the cover crop be infested but they will permit the nematodes to propagate freely so that the subsequent crop on the land may be severely injured. It is, there fore, advisable to turn under as early as possible in the spring all cover crops?especially the clovers and | Vlfi oUaj urkl/il-* o?</? ? ?1 ' vv vviivo) Tviii^ll ail" LU t'l'l" worm injury and which are planted oil nematode-infested soil.
