THURSDAY, MARCH 28, 19IS The allies need all we can do. o There is promise of a big tobacco crop this year. o Begin in time this year to clean up about the premises. Repair the screens to keep out the flies. o Every man left should feel himself as a home guard while the bov^ are at the front. o Some of the best grades of ribbon cane syrup are raised in Horry County. There is no better produced. o Men who occupy high position in the community are expected to be found on the right side when it comes to questions of community interest. o The families who refuse to comply with the rules and regulations laid down by the food administration for conserving the food supply, are the worst kind of slackers, and their time is coming. o The United States is uncertain as to the effect of the entry of .Japan into Siberia. There is every reason to believe that their entry there ma.? cause the war to wind up sooner. ii With large crops to harvest and market this year, the county needs more than ever the good roads we have been talking about for so long. o Some of the regulations regarding the conservation of food would appear to be irksome to a few sore heads who are ready to complain ;*i almost anything. Let each one of these remember that this war has not reached the limit as yet, an i things they have to stand now are as nothing to what may come to pass/ before it is good and over. o farmers are coming in every da> to renew their subscriptions to the Herald; nany new names are now nppcaring on the list. If your name is not already there, come in are; leave it when you come to Conway next time; or write us and inclose the subscription by mail. o j Years ago the farmers of thi. j county should have been raising at home all of the flour that they needed for home consumption. Why they did not begin to plant wheat here sooner is rather hard to explain. Some of them say that it was because there was no flour mill within easy reach. There is every indication that the crop now being grown in this county will bring good results. Great changes have taken place in this section of the State by reason of the planting of new and tfrcatcy variety of crops. Still greater things will take place now. Wheat gives the farmer a good crop which he can product in the Winter months and use the same land for still other crops when Spring and Summer conn along. It enables him to produce more than he produced before and the economic effect here will he worth co'nsidcring. The Familyl for Chile Growi Constipation is a co be guarded against i age. For your convenience we have prepared the certificate at the bottom of this ; page; you may fill out and return. Schools that receive Equalizing Aid must keep up their daily average attendance. A letter from the State Superintendent says, "No teacher who tails to maintain a regular daily at- I t< ndance of 15 pupils can expect ai 1 , under the Equalizing Act." Make 1 every effort to keep the children -n school and to bring back those who < have left. It can be done for we have helped to do it. See how successful you can be in your school. You can do this only through tho co-operation c.' tlie trustees, patrons and pupils. We shall be glad to render any assistance in our power. If yours is a one-teacher school use the annual report blank in the register, in which case I shall not enclose Rural Graded Report Blanks. If you have not an eight-mill tax or if you do not comply with the Equalizing Act paragraph 2 does not apply to your school. ? M. .J. Mullock. C ertificate of Teacher. I like to bake. We bake light bread, cake ; and pies, and think it is fine. I wonder what the rest of the Hoc-; ry boys are doing, (looting ready to come in the 29 I guess. I hope each one good luck. It seems that almost all that came in September and October are liking it very much. h ive others, besides myself, arc | out here beside the Blue Ridge Moun tains, halving for the artillery boys. They are out here practicing theii .J-inch guns. It begins to look more] like every day. But we are going to win the victory. I wonder what the Mt. Olive girls and boys did on Sunday? I spent the day roving through the mountains looking about the range. Well I must stop now as its'almost taps. ?"Soldier Boy." o WONDERFUL STUFF! LIFT OUT YOUR CORNS Apply a few drops then lift corns or calluses off with fingers?no pain. N'o humbug! Any corn whether hard, sof? or between the toes, will loosen right up and lift out, without a particle of pain or soreness. This drug is called free zone and is a compound of ether discovered by a Cincinnati man. Ask at any drug store for a small bottle of free/one, which will cost but a trifle, but is sufficient to rid one's feet of every corn or callus. Put a few drops directly upon any tender, aching corn or callus. Instantly the soreness disappears and shortly the corn or callus will loosen and can bo lifted off with the fingers. This drug foozone doesn't oat Old the corns or calluses but shrivels them without even irritating the surrounding skin. Just think! No pain at all; no soreness or smarting when applying it or afterwards. If ,your druggist don't have freozone have him order it for1 you.?adv?(3) I V fcl?, OOMWAT, K o.
