S, 1917 Some men only want a good chanci to go wrong. Give them the chance and they never fail to take it. The friend you like is the one \vl makes your case his case when yo.i affairs are trusted in his hands. o Some men have mad'"* fortune while others were trying to arg'..< about it. -o Truth is often hidden underneuli" what appeals to he the rankest false htod. o You can gain the confidence of ti o public only by being true to the pub 1 * / 1 \ % i i nine iaim in our cans \ we win sin :> lie. T1 e human h- dy i- the be ' machine ever made, but even it will run rather badly at times without getting out of complete order. o Not only the strictest kind of censorship has been y.v on in Germany;! but recently, as on several forme- oi casions. guards have been placed -<n j the border lines charged with the dut\ or seeing that no newspaper, or scrap oi newspaper, shall cross the horde; of that country into any adjoining neutral land. It is a sure sign that! serious eve ts po t( ad in that warracked country, and the o:it> man gov- | e) anient must k'eep its seme- from tin j outside world until the danger blow.-j over. One of those days the dang-' wlP comr and re ."use i ? pass. o It seems, upon thinking it ovc". tin t th t ecti. n of S"vth < aroliin, has, for many years past be -u doin" one of the most foolish things in tli< world. It has been paying out i'^ good money for wheat bread, apparently ignorant or at least grossly careless of the fact that the lands lirre would raise fine wheat and slip-, ply them at their very doors with thr j wheat bread they so much like. All j the time they had the power of keep-| ing their money for other purposes but failed to do it. Spending their good money for white floor was bah business even in days gone r>y when flour was cheap. Perhaps it was tinhigh prices they are now compelled to pay for wheat flour they get, that has helped to open their eyes to the sitution. At last we know of many farmers who have become alive to the circumstances and they are now planting; wheat for their own use at home. That there is no roller mill here is no excuse. There are mills at Florence, 1 Darlington, and elsewhere where the ' best of flour is produced; and if the farmers iri this section will keep on planting wheat, and get their neighbors to go into it, it is only a question of n short time before some business men in this county will have the sense and the public spirit , as well as the money, to put up the right kind of < mill. j. 44 ' AT HOTEL GRACE.
