MEETING OF CONWAY
COUNCIL OF DEFENSE
Pursuant to a call of the Chairman,
i meeting of the Conway Division of
ho Council of Defense held at
ho Club Koogns on Friday afternoon
\t 4 o'clock.
The organization was perfected by
he electi^m of IX A. Spiv'ey, Chairnan,
nad Miss Elra Sessions, Secreary.
The Chairman briefly stated
he object of the meeting and outlined
he proposed purpose of the organizaion^
It was noted with pleasure the
plendid work being done by the wonen
in the matter of the R<d Cross,
nd their consideration shown the
Soldiers selected from Horry County.
A. resolution was passed commending
Lhem for their patriotic services being
rendered.
The work being done by the various
churches and allied institutions,
through their Pastors and leaders,
was specially commended as doing
.tcir part in creating public sent.i
riunt and infusing a patriotic spirit
anions our people.
The Chairman of the Division of
the Press was not present, but the
liberal action of the C< unty Press
speaks for itself. They are doing
more than their pait in publishing
the news and dissemin iting knowledge
relative to the war.
$klr. Baker, Chairman of the Professional
Men's Division, delivered a
brief address in which he in. de several
splendid suggestions, and p'edging
his efforts along the line of organization
and agitation.
Ch.eslcy D. Jones, Chairman of the
Negro's Department, reported that
the members of his race were thorough
alive and in sympathy with the
objects of the war; and in hearty accord
with the Government in its efforts
to win in this great eonfliet.
The Teachers and school officers
were urged to organize the children
along the lines laid down in the splendid
address of President Wils< n. We
need even the cooperation and enthusiasm
of the children as well as their
parents. Periodical lectures to the
pupils will do much towards bringing
tl is about.
The Banks of the County were
heartily commended for the able assistance
rendered in t'e matter of
rolling Liberty Bonds and raising
lieu v_ ross tutuls, as well as the 1 Ik ra1
manner in which thrv have b<<n
