On last Thursday an auctioneer held a sale at the residence on Laurel Street and a quantity of his fine furniture and household goods were sold off to the highest bidders to save the expense of moving and freight churges. J. Singleton of Fntorprise was in Conway several days last week on business. The work of laying* the drains throughout Conway is still going on though labor is scarce and hard to procure. O. 11. McMillan of Mullins, S. ('., spent a day here on business last ! week. Th< se who were formerly opposed to cattle dipping are gradually coming round to the view that it is one of the greatest things they can do for the growing of fine live stock, and whereas they formerly kicked against the regulations, they now favor them. All of those who registered on June 5th for military sendee of the United States are at liberty to volunteer at any time before their names are actually posted as being certified to the district boards as liable for duty. This fact has resulted in many volunteers since June 5th. From recent reports regarding volunteers for Uncle Sam'? army, it would appear that we will soon have as large a fighting force as we want. The only thing is to get them properly trained for work at the fi ont. Loafing is the hardest job to fill after all. o ? The fire occurod about noon when dinner was being cooked. The cause of the fire is said to be a defective flue. Mr. Stevens while attempting to get the fire out stepped on the ceiling near the flue, and the boards giving away he fell to the floor below receiv ir.g painful and severe injuries. He was confined to his room with these injuries but was improving at last accounts.
