Why in Heaven's name should you act like a criminal, if you are not really one ? Some times it is best not to speak and again it is folly to wait until it is too late. * it.1 o Have you anything of value ? Then it follows that it cost you something to obtain it. o If there is one who is pulling back In modem effort at progress, crucify him at once. o The great majority of GermanAmericans in the United States will be true to America and not to Germany. See if they do not. o Congress in the final wind-up failed to grant the President the necessary power to arm our merchant ships and enable them to help destroy, let alone protect against, the German submarine menace. The failure of congress to grant this power was a fillibuster carried on in the senate by about a dozen senators who hold mistaken ideas of what is best for their country. May their lives go down in shame for the stand they have taken. From the beginning of time men have been in the habit of fighting the things which have been brought about with the idea of improving their condition, increasing their income, or adding to their convenience, good health or greater comfort. It is because a majority of men want to go on forever in the same old ruts. They abhor the idea of change. Now with regard to the dipping of cattle and the consesuent extermination of the fever tick, farmers in thi. section of the State have in some cases undertaken to fight what was intended solely for their good. They have decided in some cases to sel their stock to avoid the trouble, in others they have tried t0 blarne the members of the Legislature, and some have gone to the extent of saying that they will violate the law in their opposition to it. .. The Son of Man when he came into this world to save sinners from everlasting destruction, found opposition of the most determined lfind. Just so wip every good thing find its. enemies. But the good will survive its enemies in cattle dipping as in everything <el&e. COPY SUMMONS FOR RELIEF (Complaint Not Served*) STATE OF SOUTH CAROLINA, County of Horry. Court of Common Pleas. J. R. Nearly all the sicknses incident to a baby's life is due to constipation, or inaction of the bowels. At first indication of irregularity in this impprt ant .function, relief should be afford ed promptly. A mild laxative should be administered to gently carry off the congested waste and leave the stomach and bowels free to perform their alloted tasks. Of the various remedies recommended to relieve constipation, the combination of simple laxative herbs with pepsin, as prescribed by Dr. W. B. Caldwell and sold in drug stores under the name of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin, is the most effective. | It contains no opiate or narcotic drug, is pleasant to the taste, mild and gentle in action, and quickly brings the desired relief in an easy, natural manner. Mrs. C. J. Douglas, Mason, 111., writes that she cannot say enough in praise of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Popsin as a dependable family laxative. The types of boats to be ordered, as well is the number, it is understood, will lopend upon what the builders say as ;o the capacity of their plants. The navy department has designs for several types of chasers, ranging from 30 foot boats to big, swift craft more than 100 feet long. To make use of the small boat shops hat dot the American coasts, it is proposed to build many of the chasers of wood instead of steel so as to draw on an entirely different charicter of skilled labor and also lessen the strain on the metal market. o The diplomatic rupture between che United States and Germany was !? r% Am r\s\ /vw f c?{ iv* fU utivv/muu tv uii ciunu^Kinill nil wu^li* out Japan. British troops under Gen. Maude, operating along the Tigris river in Mesopotamia, have driven back the Turks until the Britsh cavalry is within eight miles of th?: southern border of the ir. portant town of Bagdad. To the northeast in Persia the Rus sians have gained further advantages over the Ottoman forces in retreat j westward from Hamadna, issuing occupied the town of Kangaver. Another army of King George operating against the Turks in Palestine has pressed them back northward almost to the gates of Jerusalem. At last reports the Turks in all three regions were in retreat. Whether it is their purpose to make a stand at Bagdad * ? nas not become evident. On the other fronts, bad weather is keeping the operations down to minor engagements and artillery fighting. On the front held by the British in France slight additional successes have been achieved in the Ancre valley and near Biaches, but soutwest of Chaulnes and south of Arras the Germans raided British first line positions after heavy bombardments and captured a few men. In the Champ g^c region the French have won back from the Germans a salient captured February 15 between Butte do Mesnil and Maisons de Champagne, taking more than a hundred prisoners. Please give me space to thank Mr. E. J. Sherwood for the nice and pains taking way that he has given tht public the information about that Act of the Legislature. The cow eradication law. Now the people know that it is not a Federal Law like Mr. Buck told us it was. Will the Hon. Senator give us a reason for telling us that the Act of the Legislature was a Federal Law ? Was it a slip of memory Mr. Buck, like it was with me when I said Buck, Sherwood and Stanley were responsible for the curse of the dipping Law. Mr. Sherwood in attempt ing to answer my article let his wrath run very high even to the height of wanting a Law made to dip such persons as me, in he never said what, (but in boiling oil I suppose.) The persons that he wants dipped are those who can see him and his class, the class that will not work but live off of the labor of others, some of Mr. Sherwood's neighbors say that he always stands at the head of his class. Mr. Sherwood gays that I could have easily ascertained the truth of who was in j the Legislature of 1912 bv re ference to the House Journals. Not so easy l'or me. Mr. Sherwood, as it is fo" you.
