Columbia.?That the public inaugural
exercises should be abolished is
the statement made by Governor
Manning on his return from Washington
last week. He said the President,
his immediate successors and
the Supreme Court were on the reviowintr
stand, exnosed to any do

signing person. He said that a machine
gun, at a distance, in the hands
cf an enemy, would wipe out the
whole Government.
The Chief Flxecutive said there is
intense feeling in Washington and
throughout the country at the action
of the twelve Senators in blocking
the "armed neutrality" resolution in
the Senate; that the temper of the
people is such that they will stand
hehind the President in any move
that he may make.
Praises Delegation.
"Senator Tillman lias rendered a
service to his State and his nation in
the stand he took in upholding thr
hands of the President," said Gover
nor Manning, in stressing the solidarity
01 the South Carolina delega
tion in standing firm for tho "arrnef
neutrality" resolution.
The Governor said that the Soutl

tion attracted u good deal of atten
tion.
