THURSDAY, NOV. 23, 1916 Among all the days that visit us, moving day is the saddest of all. o There is no system whatever in 1 the way some homes are run. o Some men expect a profit even in returning you a favor. ??? ! Few things are sa priceless as virtue. ] o Let a man skin you out of five cents to-day and he will get you for five dollars next week, if he can. ??o Remember that the other man may act the fool .i'l^t for the pur- ( pose of fooling you. o Marry in haste and wish for a divorce law in South Carolina the balance of your life o Turning the other cheek to be smitten was never intended to apply to the man who could rob you of your good name. o Many there are who never take pattern after the busy bee; the snail is their father, mother, and grandmother. o There was more sense than dollars in planting grain crops last year and leaving cotton off as much as possible. o The man who regards a friend as a friend indeed, is the man you can safely count as your best friend when he claims to be. o Even as small a thing as the ant has attributes that will surprise you. i l:? lia hi in ime you unci it slings you,| taste him and he is as bitter as quinine. The man who is serving the public must show that he is willing to do it regardless of what thanks they may now and then choose to give him. It never pays to get angry at the public. Heaven is only another and higher state of life than this. Many believe that as wtf live in this world just so have we lived before in a lower state, and that according to the good lives we lead here in this world will our status be fixed in the next world to come. There is some ground for this thought. Hope Almost Abai When S Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin Relieves Chronic Case of Long Standing. After a long period of suffering with liver and bowel trouble that brought on piles, during which she had tried many remedies without obtaining relief, Mrs. Mary J. Jewell, of Berrien Springs, Mich., heard of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin and obtained a bottle from her druggist. This simple inexpensive laxative compouond brought almost immediate relief and Mrs Jewell wrote to Dr. Caldwell about her case. In her letter Mrs. Jewell says, "I had tried so many things for the piles, without being helped at all, I had about given up hope of ever being any better. I knew it was the condition of mv hownls flint cjhikcH them, and after 1 had taken a bottle of Syrup Pepsin I knew it was just the pjiedicine I needed. I am very grateful to you for sending me the little book?the advice and instructions it gives would teach anyone how to get well and how to keep well." Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin is a combination of simple laxative herbs Fear has caused many a young ' man's heart to flop up into his mouth just before he went to pop the question; and then his head went light when he got the "go-by." o At the chatterwood school house the other day the two opposing sides into the literary contest talked all night and fought at daylight over < the question as to which was the ' wisest animal the mouse or the teavi. Well, who ever! u ' Talk about genuine fright, there 1 is nothing compared to that of ^tage fright. The man who got ui n the country debating society and 1 Jrawing his breath to start his argu- 1 ment, found that he could not let it jut again, and in consequence there- 1 jt began to swell and swelled larger 1 and larger until he fell off the plat- I form in a dead faint, knowg what 1 we are talking about. o i Five hundred and fifty cases of to- , ir.atoes were declared forfeited in United States district court last 1 week. The tomatoes, which were 1 shipped from Barnwell to Charles- 1 ton, were seized by government agents. An examination was made and the libel for forfeiture proceeding was presented to a jury. "We ] the jury find that the material was , adulterated and decomposed, as alleged in the libel," said the verdict. : The jury did not leave their seat?. i o For Auto Livery See J. W. Knapp deduced from the mass of agricultural teachings a few general rules of procedure. They aie called "The Ten Commandments of Agriculture," by the practice of which a man may be a good farmer in any state without being a graduate from a college of agriculture. i The commandments are as follows: ] 1. Prepare a deep and thoroughy pulverized seed bed, well drained; ^ 3ieak in the tall to the depth of 8, J 10 or 12 inches, according to the soil, J with implements that will not bring J .oo much of the subsoil to the sur- ^ face; (the foregoing depths should J )e reached gradually.) 2. Use seed of the lowest variety, 1 intelligently selected and carefully J stored. ^ 3. In cultivated crops, give the 1 rows and the plants in the rows a 1 space suited to the plant, the soil 1 and the climate. J 4. Use intensive tillage during J the growing period of the crops. 5. Secure a high content of hu- J mus in the use of legumes, barnyard manure, farm refuse, and commercial fertilizers. 6. Carry out a systematic crop rotaiton with a winter cover crop on southern farms. . J 7. Accomplish more work in a rlay by using more horse power and better implements. \ 8. Increase the farm stock to' ! the intent of utilizing all the waste , products and idle lands of the farm. 9. Produce all the food required for the men and animals on the farm. 10. Keep an account of each farm product, in order to know from which the gain or loss arises. EVER SALIVATED BY CALOMEL? HORRIBLE! Calomel is quicksilver and acts; like dynamite on your liver. Calomel loses you a day! You know what calomel is. It's mercury; quick-silver. Calomel is dangerow#. K crashes into sour bile like dynamite, cramping and sickening you. Calomel attacks the bones and should never be put into your system. When you feel bilious, sluggish, constipated and all knocked out and believe you need a close of dangerous calomel just remember that your druggist sells for 50 cents a large bottle of Dodson's Liver Tone, which is entirely vegetable and pleasant to take and is a perfect substitute for calomel. It is guaranteed to sL*.rt your liver without stirring you up inside, and can not salivate. Don't take calomel! It makes you sick the next day; it loses you a day's work. Dodson's Liver Tone straightens you right up and you feel great. Give it to the children because it is perfectly harmless and doesn't gripe. ?adv. o Morgan Brothers' warehouse was burned at Brantley, Ala., last week. 1LP? CONWAY^. O.
