THURSDAY, NOV 16, 1916 No man knows it all, but what he does know does him a whole lot of good. Therefore gain all the knowMege you can. o The man who never begins a day's work will never finish one. o Go slow when about to contend with a brother. o Look out for the kindness that is only skin deep. o Beauty of soul is better than beauty of form. It is even so with you young lady, but you can't realize it can you ? If we labor hard and fail to get the highest prize, perhaps we can get the next one to it. Let us have the best that we can. o Newspapers are now compelled to make every turn they can to remedy the high cost of newspaper. o Some are so stingy that they will lose a hundred dollars to-day which might have been saved by spending one cent yesterday. o The saying is that it takes money to make money. It takes good management and care to make money also. o It is a good sign to hear the house wife singing at her work. o Even the graetest secrets somehow find their way to the public. We are not at all worried as to the future of this county, either in peace or war, so long as such men as \yoodrow Wilson are at the helm of the ship of State. o Periods of prosperity in any country are likely to cause habits of wastefulness and carelessness among the housewives of the country. It should ^ot be so. The high cost of living ^ this liipie is causing thousands of them to turn new leaves Tljey off rrtany wasteful prfcctlccs, and they take care of many things now that they formerly threw away without a thought. In times of great prosperity and low coat, they should have endeavored to sa^e, and Jay up greater stores foi rainy dav?;'o Extravagance is a thing he practiced even in the pgstjof^i'mes. Most Effective Re Moth * t Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsir Relieves Baby When Other Medicines Failed. There is nothing so neqe^ar^.to ? child's health and comfort v lafity of the bowels. All cnildrer are specially susceptible to stoYfihcli trouble and any overstrain of' ;the sensitive organs has a tendency Ac obstruct elimination. Thiscondition is responsible for much of the Jllness of childhood. To relieve constipation a mild laxative should be employed. Cathartics and purgatives are violent in their action and should be avoided. Mrs. Alfred Du Bois, Mt. Holly, N. J., says Dr Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin is without doubt the most effective rem edy for constipation she has ever used and that it is the only remedy she could find for her baby. Little Earl was badly constipated during his first year and nothing she tried seemed to help him until she got a bottle of Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin. Now he is a fine, strong, healthy boy, and she thanks Dr. Caldwell for it. Dr. Caldwell's Syrup Pepsin is a combination of simple laxative herbs with pepsin, free from opiates or GOOD MAN DIES NEAR CEDAR GROVE James Tilman Jordan, son of the late James T. He will be remembered by many as a candidate for coroner in the last primary election. He went into the campaign a virtual stranger to most of the people of the county; but the vote he received attested the high esteem in which he was held by the voters alter they became acquainted with him. He was a young man of high character and his life thus rudely cut off, was a promising one. The interment took place at Cedar Grove. -o For Auto Livery See J. W. A correspondent of the Philadelphia Record asks whether anybody has pointed out the extraordinary applicability of Kipling's poem "If" to the circumstances and character of President Wilson. We have net observed that anybody has done so heretofore, but surely this is the most opportune moment of all for calling attention to the fact?a fact ! all the more interesting when one recalls that in the writing of "If" Kipling had George Washington in mind. There are many who believethat history's appraisal of Wocdrow Wilson will note a remarkable parallel between his fortunes in the Presidency and those of Washington during the dark days that preceded American independnece. To read over now the following stanzas of the poem, bearing in mind meanwhile the achievements and the trials of the man who has guided the destiny of the nation through these fruitful and perilous years, serves-? 1 such is the magical power of poetry ?to bring home with remarkable poignancy truths which not all of us are too blindly partisan to perceive even now and which in time to corpc all the world will recognize: "If you can keep your head when all about you Are losing theirs and blaming it on you; If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, And make allowance for their doubting, too; If you can wait and not be tired by waiting, Or being lied about, don't deal in lies, I Or being hated, don't give way to hating, And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise. If you can dream?and not make dreams your master; If you can think?and not make thoughts your aim, tr ? " xi juu can meet wun Triumph and Disaster And treat those two imposters just the same; If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools, Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken, And stoop and build 'cm up with worn-out tools; i "Ii you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue, I Or walk with Kings?nor lose the ( common touch, I If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you, If all men count with you, but 4 none too much: j If you can fill the unforgiving mint ute ^ With sixty seconds worth of distance run, ' Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it, j And?which is more?you'll be a r Man my son " ?News & Courier. o The Probable Reason.
