There are several forms of lime hut the most universally used is the Ground Limestone. This form is cheaper and is very fine making it available both for the farmer and the soil. We should use at least two tons per acre, and under no conditions would we advibe the use of less than one ton per acre. Lime acts in the following ways: It acts on the texture of the soil, rendering it more friable, and exerting a certain binding effect on loose soils. It decomposes the minerals containing potash and other food constituents, and renders them available for the plant's needs. It further decomposes organic matter, and promotes the important process of nitrification. It neutralizes sourness, and prevents the formation of poisonous compounds in the soil. It increases the capillary condition of the soil, prevents fungoid diseases and promotes the growth of more nutritive herbage in pasture-land. Long, one of the successful farmers of Simpson Creek township, spent some time in Conway one day last week. Mr. Long says that crops on ifhe lowlands ir liis township have been injured by the floods.
