seem that the teachers are selected
from the best young men and women
of the country; they claim to be
trained for the special work in which
they are engaged. They arc paid
reasonable salaries for the work they
have to do or are supposed to do.
What puzzles us more than anything
else is the way the teaching is conducted.
The boys and girls are given

the lessons at home the night before.
AY. that the parents gain is the lack
of the worry of the children about the

no benefit,- for it is at school that
a boy or girl learns- meanness that he

though it is a hard fact to consider.
We wonder and wonder just what has
become of the old fashioned teacher
who took the boy all the way from
the alphabet to the higher studies
without the father or mother being
called on to show him a single thing.
The examples were then worked out
at the school house and other exer

swiftly along- the paths of knowledge.
Only a shaking up perhaps would
provide a remedy for the condition oi
affairs that seems to exist in some of
the schools.
