The best of men will have some queer ways. o One quality of genius is to lose itself in its work. o Nature is mighty good but she can be a rough master. o * Good liealth appears priceless to ^ those who have lost it. i ?~o N Well, success is really all that sue- ( cecds in this uncertain world. 1 c o k Blessings are never appreciated ' quite as much as they are just after v they have been lost. I o ? That which we have we do not want, ' and that which we have not it is hu- '' man nature to strive after. ^ o Time is that part of our earthly c capital which we generally spend and 1: throw away without ..bought. s o c Little fragments of time can be j, used to great advantage when prop- g erly employed in usefulness . t I Prohibition does not always prohib- ' it; it only helps to suppress the liquor ( traffic to more or less extent. \ o ] Without some degree of confidence 1 in an undertaking a man will piay a f losing game from the very start. ( < o J. The prettiest girl in the world is far from .perfect though there may be ( some young man who hs not i <>r the time convinced of the fact. 1 ( Make every acre produce as much as possible, and get all you can for having to plow over the land. Why go over a large field when the same amount of grain could be grown on much less land. One of the rules of health laid down by some so-called experts forbids worry. This is an ideal condition that was never intended to exist in human nature. It would be great if it could be attained. A man or woman that never worried never accomplished any thing in this world and never will. I Worry is the sentinel which stands at! the gates of danger and sends in a warning in time to prevent trouble that might end life there and then. The experts are away off the tract really. mm -: ! o Some of the things set forth in a 1 complaint for divorce filed in a State, vhcrc divorces are allowed is apiusing, uid show on what flimsy grounds the ight to a divorce may be placed. Ac ording to a news item in a western Kiper the other day, the allegations :>f bad conduct on the part of the husband who was sued, started out with the allegation that even during the honey-moon the bride groom was nervous and spilled coffee all over the hotel table cloth causing the com plainant to have nervous prostration ami to make a scene before the hotel employees and the complainant had lost the usual comforts and happiness of a honey-moon. With a continuance o the interest of the people of this com munity in their school, with definlt well laid plans, under the leadershi] of the county superintendent of edu cation, for the future development o their school, a few years will see stil further growth in their school facili ties and along with this growth tlier will be amazing agricultural develop ment. The organization of the Farmers Club at the close of our meeting Ii this community is further evidence o the interest of the people in communi ty development. This club will b able to do much that will advance th interest of that section and upon a fu ture return to Horry County I shal expect to hear of many things tha have been done as a result of the or ganization of this Club. The plans of the Little River peopl for our coming were well laid am most delightfully carried out. This i unquestionably one of the most beau t"iful sections of the State that 1 hav j been in. It is rich in undevelope* j possibilities, but some of those day j other people will find out the wealtl ; of this section and unusual develop i ment will inevitably follow. Thi school situation is delightful; with : | splendid house adequate to all th i needs, with the willingness on the par of the people to support the school iv a special tax sufficient to give ai adequate school term, there v.as liUli Tor the State Supervisor of Eura , Schools to suggest. The wealth ii j agricultural resources of the Wampc ! section was a retvelation to me. C'los enough to the sea to feel the effect o th ocean on climate, yet high enougl to be well <1 rained and without th' sterile sandy soil so much in evident in other sections of the State close t the ocean, the farm lands of this sec tion appeared to me to be ideal. At th< time, I knew that Horry had boci making progress. 1 shall look for ward to visiting the county aim in ii the fall and to seeing some of thes* schools at work. Under your leadership for senr time Horry County has been makinj wise use of all the Laws passed by th Legislature in recent years for th benefit of country schools. No count; in the State has made wider use of am reaped greater advantages from tlv Term Extnesion Law than Horr; County. The splendid devlopmen following the enactment of this lav p.aved the way for a successful opera j tion of the Rural Graded School Lav in Horry County. With 17 of the? j rural graded schools now in the conn i ty there is hardly a county of th i State with proportionate populatioi that is receiving more benefits fror I this law Unfortunately the Higl i School Law is not reaching as man; | people in Horry County as in othe j sections, there being only two hig : schools in the County, but with th Term Extension and the Rural Grade School Law a splendid foundation i being laid for high school work. T j my opinion the time will come, and i us imi uir (liSLaui, wnen more will i) strong county high schools in sever.) sections of Horry County. One of the great handicaps to you ! schools nt present is the short schoc it*i in. in i lie present stage of thei development the people should detei mine upon a minimum school term o six months in every school and a soon as possible they should move (hi minimum up to seven, the mininuu that is now being urged in a gren | many sections of the State.
