It is watermelon time and laziness will be greatly increased. o Keep out the mosquito and the house fly. They annoy. o Like of patience for results has kept many a man or woman down. o This hot weather is not a good time for either mosquitoes or book agents. o An oily tongue has caused many a man to part with the hard earned coin to his bitter regret for many days after. o Many a matrimonial tangle has arisen over some culinary difficulty. Some women have forgotten that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. , < i V O No great invention or discovery in this world that has benefitted mankind to any extent was ever accom plished without the closest study and investigation. o The words of some men arc as soft as honey when they are trying to skin you out of your money. That is the reason their talk in popular slang is known as "dope.'' .. . o ' , : If you like this paper and do not care to break the habit of reading it, please remember that you will have to pay for it. It takes money to run it and if you want it send in the consideration. o It will take W. J. Bryan the rest of his life to explain to the people of this country the exact reason why he resigned from the president's cabinet; and even then we hardly believe the people will understand it. o According to the newspapers published a few short years back, it would appear that one half of the people were suffering from hook-worm while the other half was about dead from pellagra. o While the doctors are studying pellagra to try to find some cure for this dreadful malady, the masses of people may develop some other disease that will spring a surprise on the dear "M. D." and divert their attention perhaps. o If you want to get acquainted with the world and the conditions in it as you always find them, then be prepared to accept it as it is found, and do not harbor a notion that you were born to change human nature and father evrey other man and woman in it whether they will or not. o Some men and women in the world study conditions as they are found and become fanatics on certain subjects of reform; but these same men and women who go nearly crazy because they cannot remake the world, are just as much puzzled over the "reason why" of it all as those who go to their own way doing what they reasonably can for the rest of mankind and keep ing a level head over it while they are at it. i DEATH OF MRS. W. C. GRAHAM AT TABOR, N. C. Miss Lovia Ellen Gore, daughter of Dr. D. W. Gore, M. D. and Sarah A. Gore, was born November 14, 1871. Postssing a genial spirit, large sympathy and a helpful disposition, she was early recognized as a remarkable young lady having many friends. November 27, 18911, she was happily! married to Mr. William Charles Graham of Loris, S. C., but for many years they have lived at Tabor, N. C. She has ever been the devoted wife, the loving mother and the guiding star of their happy home exhibiting ml these queenly virtues of hospitality and unselfish devotion that make a I groat life and a charming home. ! i x 11. i J * i ... . .. I v\ lino .\irs. uranam oeiiewd timl i homo to bo woman's greatest empire | of usefulness, yet she was never too busy to servo her neighbors in the most self-sacrifiring way. Was any sick? She was the first to go, carrying sunshine and sympathy so gracious in such an hour. Was any in distress? She was there with comfort and relief. Was any discouraged and down-cast ? Her smile and good cheer could drive away the clouds. Perhaps her hand soothed more fevered foreheads than any other in all this County. Early in life she became a Christian and united with the Missionary Baptist Church. And while loving all Christians, she gave herself unparingly to her church. No sacrifice was too great, no burden too heavy to bear for her church. Her pastor's burdens were shared by her, and her prayers and conscil never failed him. She was president of the Ladies' Aid Society, which made it possible to erect the new pastorieum for the | church last year. Though frail and I leeble at the time, she always said we ' must go forward. j Having heavy responsibilities she naturally clung to life saying there was much good she wished to see accomplished yet; and if she might be strong enough she desired to render much more service for her Lord. But her gracious work of loving service was done, and on Saturday June 26, ! 1915, we watched her beautiful and now glorified spirit depart; life the white sails of a ship moving gently out of sight, her gentle soul was going, going to that sure haven where the weary are at rest. She was a i great sufferer dining her long illness, exruoiung marked patience and meek submission. Two weeks before the end she had made plans with her I family for her departure. Special instructions how she wished the child' ren reared were committed to a loving | sister to be given the children after i she was gone. With serene and hope almost growing into sight, : lie faced I th<? future without fear and with readiness io go, ' t The end was beautiful and calm, crowning a great life with a glorious victory. The lips moved but no word we heard. Was she even now speaking with her Savior. One wave of pain shook her like the gentle ripple of the waves. Again she slumbered. The lips mowed. One wave of the hand as if to becon us a last farewell, j and she was gone, (lone to join the loved ones on the other shore, gone to be with Christ forever-more. She leaves a devoted husband and six children, Liston Core Graham, Nina Vera, Ada Ethel, David Robert, Benjamin Franklin and Frederick ' Dale Graham. Three sisters survive her, Mrs. S. P. Hughes, Loris, S. C., Mrs. W. J. Hughes, Beaver Dam, N. C., and Mrs. F, C. Williamson, Woodville, Fla. Her funeral was conducted by her pastor in the Baptist Church, Tabor, N. C., Sunday June 27, 1915 in the presence of a large audience of admiring friends. Her Pastor, E. J. HARRELL. A Cough Remedy That Relieves.
