The Conway Lumber Company started up its mills again last week after remaining shut down for several, weeks on account of the high water in the Waccamaw. The water had not gone down entirely but it had dropped sufficiently to allow operations at the mill to be resumed. One morning last week, at an oarlv hour, some one on his way to lake ihc early morning1 train, discovered that there was a fire in one ofthe rooms of j the town hall, the old room formerly occupied by the Clerk of the Court of Common Pleas. Upon investigation he found that the floor in the room was on fire and from appearances had been burning for some time when discovered. It was put out. It could not have done much damage as the room is fire proof with exception of the j floor and it could not have spread to i the remainder of the building. Capt. W. P. Lawrence, the hustler, was in the city last week and closed a deal with Mr. L. H. Burroughs for the Farmers Warehouse, which he will run for the next three years if nothing happens. It is useless for us to say any more than he has rented the house for the people that patronized him in 1912 and 1913 at this house know he is the best judge of tobacco that ever came to Conway, S. C. He says if the farmers will no top their tobacco too low and cure i bright prices will be good. . W. J. Singleton and son, JLewit Singleton, both spent a day here his!, week on business, returning home in the afternoon in their gasoline launch. Lewis Singleton recently went to Florence where an operation was performed for appendicitis. He had his second attack and his physician said that he would not have with stood the third one. His trouble was caused by an obstructor! of foreign substance in the appendix. To My Customers of Horry County? I arn glad to announce that I have rented the Farmers Warehouse of Conway, S. C., for the next three years and will say if the farmers wih get their tobacco planted early and top it high in order to cure it bright prices will be good. Do not try tc raise heavy dark tobacco, the world can do that and take practically nothing for same. You want thin bright tobacco that commands big moncj abroad. Let me thank you for your liberal patronage in the past and he)! you all will remember me this season. Yours to Serve, W. P. Lawrence-adv A deal was closed last week whereby J. J. The hog is the largest that has so far been reported this season." It would certainly seem to us that the editor of this irood North f!nm Una paper would know the lines of I his own North Carolina county; and it is a matter of regret to us that Brunswick county, North Carolina, could not raise big hogs so that the North Carolina papers would not have to come over into the Palmetto State in order to get news.
