ADVANTAGES IN WHEAT. The plan is now to encourage the planting of more grain in the cotton belt of the Southern States. This plan is necessary in view of the low price of cotton, and nobody knows when the price wi! ever advance. As already expiainned in the columns of this paper, there is no reason why the farmers of Horrv County should! not plant wheat, not for market of 'ouvse, but to supply their own de-1 nands at home for wheat flour. Alhough there is no flour mill in this ounty at this time, if the farmers vill begin to plant wheat, it will not ie long before there will be several vithin easy reach of the planters. By earning how to raise wheat thev vill save the expense of twenty-five o fifty dollars per year that they lave heretofore been spending for cheat Hour raised in other sections of he country. Again it will have still mother beneficial elfect. The price if wheat, and consequently the Hour nanufactured from it, has been high ut of all reason as compared to other hings, and as compared with the ase with which whfrnt may be raised n the Western States. If the farmer generally in the South will begin to I aise what they need for home use it! will finally result, as we believe, in} he reduction of the price of flour, j nd the working class of people all1 >ver this great country will be beneittcd accordingly. From time to ime, the Herald expects to publish! .rticles on the planting and handling! >f wheat and the making of flour. * IAD TEETH A CAUSE )F CANCER. Constant strain of any part of the ?ody is now well recognized as an mportant contributory cause of can- t er. One of the forms of irritation . i v'hieh has been repeatedly observed: o result on this disease is the conitant friction of the sharp edges of >ad teeth or of imperfect plates I igainst the sides of the tongue. To!1 )e sure, sores on the tongue caused 11 n this way do not always become can- j ter. Neither are wounds from toy , hstols always followed by lockjaw, i But there is danger in both cases, and t is as easy to avoid it in the one as n the other. A bad tooth should never , >e tolerated in any event, and the < langcr of cancer is only one more ;ood reason for having it attended to. i dancer of the tongue may occur at my age, but it is most common bewoen 40 and 00. Statistics show very few cases under thirty. The majority .>f these cases occurred in females, while in later years males were found :o be more frequently attacked. Can-i er of the tongue in young subjects is especially fatal. Cut of thirty cases there were only two recoveries. The: :?thers died within ten months or could not he traced. As one-third of all cases investigated have bc-.en shown to be / I definitely associated with jagged or decayed teeth or impc rfect plates it | would seem that here, at least, is one i method of preventing cancer. It is! probable that other conditions occurring in combination with the bad teeth increase the liklihood of cancer of the tongue as a result, but the removal of this form of irritation is so simpic a manor mat drains in acescs of this kind must bo mostly charged to pure neglect. Where a sore place caused by jagged tooth does not prom ptly heal there is real danger of I cancer. If the removal or treatment! of the tooth does not relive the sit-; nation and the ulcer continues prompt I operation is nece.-sary, for this form: of cancer is quickly fatal. * * * * Pick up one of the novels of the day that will claim your attention ond hold your interest from the first page to the last. It will appear to you as if it had beeh conceived and written out off-hand without much effort on the part of the writer. Hut this is where you are mistaken. The best works of fiction have taken time and much thought, and a great deal of tearing up and writing over to make them what you find them when you open them to read. Just so you may be sure that whatever you roe or hear in this world or whatever you may come to want or own, if they are things really worth while, they took more effort to produce than would appear to you. The most valuable things in this world are those which cost the most. % a . IA GREA RICHARDSON CI A display that sees it. Don't fa Richardson TAX RETURNS FOR 1915.
