I have received the following from ltev. A. T. Jamison of the Orphanage: "We did our level best to make a big sweet potato crop at the Orphanage this fall. Every effort was made ast Spring to*get the land in perfect condition and to get the plants out in time. But everybody in our section of the State, at least, knows how the drought prevented early setting out of pftuits and how it prevented normal growth of the potatoes. Grateful as we are for the quantity gathered, we cannot fail to feel disappointed that We have not near enough to meet the requirements of our big population. His plan could, be worked in many a country church where potatoes are plentiful, and barrels and barrels could be easily sent the orphans out of the good supply of many a farmer whose family .would never miss the amount given. There is no article of food more popular with the orphan children, and we may furthermore say that in our( opinion there is no article more wholesome for them. It may be added that we will be; glad to have corn, meat, canned goods or any other article than can be sparred. Anything good for food in your home is good for orphan boys and girls. We will appreciate anything you may be able to do for them.' At the recent session of the Waccamaw Association the delegates of about twenty-five churches represented said that their churches would send some provisions to the orphans . It was decided to send the goods to the nearest depot on Thanksgiving Day or not later than the following day and to notify me at Conway what you are sending and to what place you are taking same so 1 can get free transportation. 1 have secured free transportation from the following places: Myrtle Beach, Pine Island, Aynor, Cool Spring, Conway, Allen, Bayboijo, Loris, and Mt. The election for Flovds township on the question of issuing bonds to the uiiivum vi iwt'nij 11 ve mousand dollars for roads and bridges in that township, whch had been advertised for November 24th, it was derided to postpone until some time in tho month of December or until in January, J0.14 The reason for the postponement was thefact that the registration book had closed by law before the recent general election and then only after advertising' for two weeks in some newspaper the time and place where the board would attend for granting regstratibn ccrtilicates. They ne glected to appoint this meeting of the board and advertise the same, hence there is no chance for all of the voters to be legally registered in time for the election on November 24th. The registration books will be open on the ilrst Mondays in December and January, and the board will no doubt hold a special meeting for the sole I purpose of registering the voters for this special election in Floyds.
