Tlieie hns been scmeth'ng said of tumir g the upper story of the town hall into an opera house. This will i o doubt he dene in the course of time. - O? The hope of Conway is in the civic league. The men may be slow but when the wonun take hold of matteis there is something always done* ?O? The improvement in the farming sectionsot Ilorry County is just as noticeable as the improvement at the County seat, and perhaps more. This county is entirely new as compared to what it was ten years ago. Many hardly realize the wonderful development that has taken place. ?O? It is a mistake to depend on luckOne often places the good fortune of another to the credit of mere luck, when really it is the result of pluck and nothing else. From the beginning of the world the man without a job who sits down with his he.adg folded to wait for something to turn up has lived in disappointment. ?0? It is not what a man or woman accomplishes in one day of life that counts very much. It has never been so. The sticking at it from day to day through the years js what does it. Too many men and women are spasmodic. They can be very active for a few hours, but they do not hold out. They fail on the home stretch. ?0? Tobacco farmers neglect to take proper care of their tobacco flues after the curing season is over. Don't let the flueB stand in the barn and take the weather, the rains and the snows through the winter and spring. Wheal the crop is cured take the flues down, give them a thin coating of tallow and place them inside the barn and keep them there until wanted the next season. Why let your money rust out in that careless way that many have? Money saved is money gained- j Conway is growing now at a rate wbloh justifies the expenditure of s muoh as may be necessary to place here the improvements of modern times. There are the waterworks and sewerage system to be installed the cement sidewalks to be laid, and the main thoroughfare to be paved. All of these ought to be done, and they can be done. -0? The price of real estate in thifcounty will never be lower, thougl. many in placing the values on lam' will actually namep.icep lower thai the lands can be bought. Lands at two and three dollars ner acre are u A dream of the past. Five aud tci dollars per acre and from these figures up to twenty and thiity is the rule now, and it will never go lower. ?0? It is a sad condition in any person's life when they aae compelled to do this or do that, or have this or have that, in order to enjoy life and grasp that amount or degree of happiness a'loted to the human race' b\ nature. It ought to be enough to be aliye, and there is a spirit in many a man or woman which makes for en-' joynientand contentment regardless of the circumstances cr their environment at the time, It is the tru? philosophy of life. -Chit is important to clean up in time , for the absense or presence ol \ typhoid feyer and malaria here this I Summer will depend no doubt upoi | the absence or presence of the house ?y and the mosquito. Much oi course depends upon the conduct ar.d the care exercised by each indi vidual. Eat noth:ng whatever tha* has been exposed to Hies, and drink no water that is suspicious. Thb rule would have kept many a persoi out of the hospital in the past, and it will help do it for you if you wil follow it. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Duscnbury, ol Toddville, S. C., spent a day in Conway last week. J. Sid Bellamy, of Wampee, S. C. was among the business men visit ing Conway last week. The strawberry crop is ripening faster now and the farmers are get ting busy with the picking. Mrs. J. E. Coles returned las' week from a visit of some lengtl to friends and relatives in Virginia Miss Naomi Collins went to Wil mington on a shopping tour am returned to her home here on Fri dav. ^ * C. B. Livingstone and John H Verecn, both of Little River, visiter Conway last week on business ant remained here for several hours. Misses Margaret Howell and Kath leen Sessions returned to their home.1 last week, the Horry Industrial School having closed for the summei vacation. Mrs. Frances E. Moulton, of Bos con, Mass., arrived in Conway some time ago to spend some time here visiting friends and relatives. There was a thunder cloud and showers of rain last Wednesday, and the rain was welcome to the strawberry growers to aid in ripening the crop. The Horry Industrial School clos ed for the midsummer vacation or Wednesday of last week, after a ver> successful session. Dr. E. O. Watsor is pleased with the success the school has had for its first year, and there are many friends of the institutior who predict great things for it in the coming years. Miss Emmie Coles is teaching the Snider Select Kindergarten during the indisposition of Mrs. C. H. Snider. This school was started several months ago to lead the very young along the devious paths of learning, and it has had a great success from the very first. The type and presses of the Loris News were recently packed up and shipped back to the firm of Barnhart Brothers & Spindler, from whom they were purchased, the publishing company deciding to suspend the publication of the paper temporarily. It is stated, however, that in the meantime the paper will be issued I from another office after a short delay, and until new arrangements can be made. The people of that growing town do not expect to allow the place to remain long without a newspaper and a live one at that. ?e as - , Piles Cured la 6 to 14 Days tour dnifdit will refutuH money II PAZO OINTMENT fella to cure say case of itch int. He is survived by several sons and daughters, and by his sister, Mrs. Emily Causey, who is now about 84 years of age, and apparently good for many more.
