C THURSDAY, FEB.. 12th, 1914. llow can you fortell the value of lar.il. 11 you have a garden ?] ot on which iou can live and cultivate, our advice to you is to it no matter what the price that is tffend to you for it. ? O? The State Sunday School Con vention wi.l meet in Anderson, S(\, cn February llth, 1914. eplen did piai s are Itire laid for its rut cess. Every Sunday School Work er in the State, who really has the cu te at heart will le interested in r'oing everything in his or her power to make it a success from every standpoint. ?O? Always invite the new and untried when it promises to make living easier if it lessens to anj extent the labor man i8 compelled to do, or et ables him to do inon in the same given time. Bui never fail to look out for th< fraud xwho ccnus to you in tin guite of progress and invention, ?0This is the time of the year whei the farmer needs to be careful no to make a serious nib lake in tin 8t lection of the crops he intends t< plat.I, and no mistake in tlie carefu and rightful preparation of the land in time for the Spring planting o those crops. Too man) farmers pu off until too latw the things nee ss ary to be done now so that wlui planting time comes round, he cai go ahead and put the seeds in th ground, without having to wait t pit pare his lands. ?O? You will hear the remark ofte made that eonie man who is prom in ent in the community is a ver stingy man. It is quite true tha there are some stingy men in ever community. But who is mor stir gy than the dear public them se Ives? No one man on earth i more aingy and narrow minde< I \ . than the public, the voters of the country, when it comes time for n them to pay taxes to be spent in the interest of the common good. Let it be said in any movement that a man's taxes will be raised ? one cent on the dollar, and you mark the death of the movement. -O? Those who have studied the present conditions in county gevern* ment, have seen the necessity of a better plan of supervision over the roads and br dges and other public work* of the county. As it now is, the whole matter invested is the oounty Supervisor, who is one i lone man to take all of this immense responsibility. How is it possible for him with t.hp limitpil * - ? ? ? lime at h.s disposal, to overlook tliis important work all over a large county? Plainly it cannot be done. One who is at present holding an ollicial position on the affairs of the county, has given it as Iks opinion that a solution of the d (lieu 1 ty would he in the creation of a new office, that of township supervisor. In each township there Wuiild be a man, krown as township supervisor, and it would he his duty to 8 eafter all of the roads and bridges in his township. No bridges could he repaired, no new hiiJge could he built, no new road could he laid out without his "O ,K . " first had and obtained. And all of the funds for a particular town ship, as provided by law, would he disbursed to the best advantage under the control and direction of the township supervisor. It strikes us a very good plan. We would like to see it tried. At least lets suggest that some change he made in the near future from the conditions as they now are. ? < Mrs. S. C. Sweet. Mrs. S. C.
