s %- - * u VOL XXV11I. Ill 11 Held Before Clerk of the Court on Final Hearing . FILED BY VIEWERS At Which Many of the People Whose Lands are Included in the District, Filed Objections to the Classification of the Lunds as Fixed by Board of Viewers. In accordance with the notice published to that effect in this paper for several weeks, the Clerk of the Court, Mr. W. L Bryan had a hearing at bis ( flice on Thursday of last week, on the question of the acceptor ce cr rejection of the ccmplete or final report of the Board of Viewers aid civil engineers, ft appeared that this board had gone over their woik very carefully and fully, making a map of the district, showing the number and courses of the drains and they had classified the lands within the dbjt? ict. This drainage district, as shown by the map, lies in Simpson Creek township in the reighborhood of the R^und Swamp, aid it takes in what was formerly mown is the D? rham lands, or at Wast a large portion of them. The classification made by the viewers did not meet with the approval of several of the land owners within the district, and most of tbe time taken up at the hearing last Thursday was in hearing obj ctions to this classification Tho own?ra who objected held that their lands in several iustances had been classed 4or> high in the supposed bcqetits tj be derived. Hon. ft $ Scarborqugb appeared for the oppcsitiop while Cot C. P. Quattlebaum w&s emp'oy ed by the pe pie favoring the <fUw fcrict and the report as it now is. It appears that the ei gineers find that upwards of $70,000 00 will be r quired to p3rform this work of drainage. But they stated that this e timate was rq-her high as they wat ted to mako it large enough to cover the cot t Tbs main (piest'iou which the clerk is, to decide dow is whether the benefits will be greater than this expense of construction. If the benefits would be equal -or greater than this cost, it is his duty to coLlirx the report and let matters go on, or if he finds the reverse, then to dismiss the petition, He deferred bis decisicn until a later date it was stated until qftpr tbe attorneys concerned should make or tile their arguments. There are many wbo are very ar.xious to see this matter go through. It is a move toward progress and improvement such as this country his never seen. It; will bring out tbe great possibilities of tbe fertile soil of a large township.
