Aiu on# tbe delights due to electricity is plenty of light diffused in many different ways. This is apnnv niurht. ill Hi A p'tv. From the large arc lights at the corners, the great white ways, down to the numberless ways of making elect.ie signs, there is inspiration and delight in the col temptation of the magic way in which the modern tight is turned into day. * * ? Congressman Ragsdale has already set at nought very decidedly the oft-repeated dictum that a new member of Congress can have no influence at Washington. On the im poitar.t committee of Banking and Currency, he has made his irlluencf felt in rouncutain way and the measures he advocates, if carried out, cannot but be beneficial to the section he represents. Mr. Ragw dale is a hard fighter ai d will never be content to play the role of "knol cn a kg" in the councils of S'ate. ? Kingstree Record. # The farmers of Horry County ought to feel proud of the fact that we have one of the very finest farmirg sections in the world. Many there are to-day who are getting along jvell on Horry farming lands. They do not realize that here are advantages they could not enjoy elsewhere in the agricultural sections of the world, Where would }cu go to find a place where lands are cheaper? Where would you go to find lands that are tetter for ciops? Just a little drainage in bcine neighborhoods is all that is netded to make Horry County a vtgitable garden of Eden. * * TB E COMMON TOWEL. This household infection spreader is abhorrent and repulsive to a person who has been used to an individual towel. It is difficult to understand how any one can wipe I if. In. a J * iiio m<c uij ? tuntu, uamp lowei that Las been used by all the other im mtcrs of the household. But custom is a great factor in molding habits and allying prejudices, hence the necessity of pointing out at least one reason why the common towel is / dangerous. There are many germs which will attack the eyes and cause inflammation, providing the eyes are in a favorable condition for the gerui ta develop at the time of its introduction. A germ which at f >ne time will grow in tho eye and 11 :aiue intlammatiou will at another ^ time be perfoctly harmless. Germs which are harmless t > oneself may f be exceedingly poisonous to another E person and cause dangerous in flam- j mation of the eyes. For hygienic 1 reasons the common towel should J. be abolished in every home. ?Bui- * letin American Medical Association, # * * It is to be noted that in some of our largest and most progressive I cities, the members of the civic f leagues, aro taking hold of the ; question of better roads leading from the country into those cities, and they are sLowitg the m< n how ' to go about the impotUi t work of uiakiDg good highways leading therein from every direction. One plan is to have a road-working day, every man iu the entire placo and adjoining communities being especially invited to come and work one day on the roads, while the dinner and refreshments are proyided by t-.h? Ipacmn. Of course modern road building machinery has its part to play, and on the same day that the hands are employed in shovelling clay with shovels, the aoui ty and municipal authorities, the railroad companies and the lumber interests, are all there with Ihelr road building machinory and appliances, all working together as one largo force to accomplish the ends sought. At the time appointed, the farmoru, the lawyers and iho doctors, the preachers, the commercial travellers, and even the streot loafers, all congregate togother and spend the entire day with thoir coats off, their sleeves rolled up, unH with nifU nnd ?;hnvf>l husilv en I gaged. It is wonderful to read of the results thus brought about on the roads by giving just cue day now and thea when all the force* turn out with one common end in view. It is easy to accomplish a great work in a shot t time by having many forces working at it. The . interost that is awakened in tho interest of good reads by those woihing days cannot he over estimated. Everybody of course sees tbe need of the good road?. By having these working days, everybody is taught that ihey are expected to do their part in getting them, and it shows how much good can be dene in so shoit a time. The members of tho Conway Civic League will no doubt get up several working days during the next twelve months. Already seme of them are talking about it. Whenever they get it ftartcd besure that you help the m cut in every way that ycu can. For a long time the people everywhere have realized that bettor roads are necessary for the future development and advance ment of this country. What they want to do now is to realize that it is easily possible to have their. Nothing is better than a working day properly managed and advertised to start off the good work. The question of good roads is such a general one of interest to everybody, that it is everybody's business to be ihinkir g about it.
