A man may work every day in a sort of perfunctory way, his mind a thousand miles away frtm his work. He may have his rtllft'cles schooled so that they will follow a given sot of motions without the guidance of the brain, But his work will be counted no better nf*t year than it was at first. His accomplishments wil not compare with he who puts his soul into his i worn every nay and every hour. * ? * A Correspondent write9 with his communication stating that unless .the article appears in the paper he will stop his subscription. We take this method of explaining not only to him but to all others that we pubt libh all that wo can coming in from the people who buy and read the paper, but there are limits beyond which we cannot possibly go We try to fill our space each week with the best that we can get together. It is the way of some met to look for something selfish it everything that is done by anothei man or any particular set of men, In this movement for the commoc good, it will be useless for such a man tobok. Toose who have joined it and are pushing it along have nothing in view except to benefit their fellows. A i ready the farmers of this State have found that tobacco is a pretty good money crop to plant. While the prices of tobacco may go down for a short titno, now and then, still the prices comos up again quickly. This must bo so because tho population of the earth is rapidly increas ing, the tobacco habit is increasing ven at a more rapid ra'o, for there are people using it now that formerly would not think of it. In high society, according to the newspapers, there aro ladies addicted to the habit of smoking, something that at one time in the history of this country, was entirely unknown and unspeakable. * * * The fact still stares the county in the face?the fact that Horry County has a large amount of money tied up in a steel bridge across Waccainaw near Conway, . owing to the lack of roads on the opposilq side of the river, can derive no benefit whateyer from the invest ment. It is a fact also that this costly investment will remain on the county's hands forever without any returns ever being realized unless those whose duty it is takes the matter up and goes ahead until the necessary roads and approaches are made. It appears that in the last campaign the new steel bridgo; and the proposed shell and other' roads to Myrtle Beach were much ^ discussed, and this it appears had something to do in the determin ation of the result when the campaign linally closed and the votes were counted. Can it be possible that politics can still alTecfc the matter which is of so much importance to the people of all that, rich section of Horry lying on tho other sido of the river. They need the roads and I tlm bridges to come here to the! county seat. They need this more than the people of Conway need it f or the purpose of going to Myrtle Beach as somo would express it. Is the rea&on why no movement has yet been made, a politteal as well as an economical end? It is well t? ask tbeie questions, and it would I be well for somebody to find out the true reason and if tluro js a I cause for delay, at once remove I that cause.
