The dark corners of Horry County in the course of a few years will be just a memory. * * * The seasons so far have been dry for the irish potato crops. In some sgaMortis of the couaty it has been too dry to get a good stand of corn. | * * I ? There is no section of tbis county where during the past several years the farmers have not stretched out their fences and broadened their fields. And they live in better houses and ride in better vehicle?. * * * The sum and substance of the child problem here or elsewhere Is the question of waking up the par* ents to a sense of their strict duty ./ in restraining the boys and girle. The community can do nothing by united effort, except to discuss plans as a recent meeting did here The individual family must be brought to [ ?i* ?? , realize mat it is a unit in Itself which must perform is proper function, and when every family in Conway gets to doing this, the boys and girls will improve accordingly. * * * David Grayson writing a new "Adventure In Contentment," in the May American Magazine says: "Did you ever sit by a camp-fire and watch the flames dance and the sparks fiy upward into the cool dark air? Did you ever see the fitful light among the tree-depths, at one moment opening vast shadowy vistas into th? forest, at the next dying downward and leaving it all In somber mystery? And what a friendly and companionable thing a camp-fire is! How generous and outright it is! It plays for you when you wish to be lively, and it tflows for von I ? when you wish to be reflective." * * * Civil engineers were busy until lately making a survey for a railroad line from Marion county into Horry. The men stated that they were working for the Seaboard Air Line, and that a branch line would bi extended through this county to Conway, connecting with the new line of road recently opened up through Britton's Neck. The Atlantic Coast Line will be obliged to extend their line from Aynor on to Marion or Muliint. They cannot throw thla road away, and aa it it, i k. -v JSmmm it cannot pay them until this country reaches a much higher state of development. Their only recourse is to take it on to Marion. ? * Everything possible should be done by the professions to advance the interests of the farming classes in the different sections of the country. Let the doctors show the farm sr, if he can, how he can keep his farm sanitary and reduce the liability to sickness. Let the lawyers and the trial justices, or magistrates, encourage the farmers in settling f_ ji i 1-n .i? 11 vQtjir uisputes, especially ice smaii matters which cat:not involve much, out-side of the court, and save the time and money that they would necessarily have to spend in maintaining needless lawsuits. Let the preachers preach economy and thrift, careful management and avoidance of bad debts, as well as matters of s ricter spiritual nature, aid thus m; ke them unde 'stand t\.at it is their duty to make the position of themselves and their families in this world, as comfortable and pleas ant as possible. This condition of things is yery desirable and all class es should be willing to help all other classes of the people in every way that it is possible to do so. Some are inclined to think that knowledge and learning stands no chance beside hard labor and energy in apply ing the muscle. This must bo wrong to some extent, because it has been said from olden time that knowledge is power. Therefore get all the knowledge and power possible by drawing from all sources of information, and then the energy aud the muscle work may be applied intelligently and in the way that it will accomplish most and do the most lasting good. m m m Cum ill tint, fttlsr liaidlts Win't Cun T'ae worst cases, no matter of bow long standing, are cured by the wonderful, old reliable Dr. Portsr's Antiseptic Healing Oil.
