On this morning, February 20th,
1913, the management of the Horry
Industrial Sch ?( oegan clearing the
bite for the school buildings. It
was suggested by the Board of
Trustees at their meeting held last

Picnic at Four Mile School House *
The picnic planned for the Four
Mile School for Friday Feb. 14th,
was postponed to Monday Feb. 17ch
and the beautiful day more than re
paid for the disappointment of Fri
day.
Twentyfive patrons attended dur
ing the morntng and afternoon and
a oeautifui dinner with hot coffee
was served at noon.
Contests in rapid arithmetic work
occupied the first hour and the child
ren all did excellent work.
After recess six grades in reading
were given, followed by an interest
ing class in book keeping.
After the dinner the pupils enter
taioed their friends with pleasant
soDgs and recitations, all well given.]

Magistrate Court.
In the court of Magistrate Chestnut
on last Wednesday, the cases of
The State vs Ambrose Martin and
v (.nuomi nther defendants charged
with entry ou real estate, were Culled
for trial, one of the cases, that 1
rgainst Mr. Martin, having been
transferred to Mr. Chestnut by
Magistrate J J. King, and the other
Cuses being still in the jurisdiction
of Mr. King who attended here to
try them at the same time. CJpon
motion of the prosecutor Mr. Fate
Grainger, the cases were continued
until April 10ib, 1913, one of the
material witnesses for the State, according
to him, being absent and
u*avoid&b?y detained at borne on account
of the illness of a child,
George M. Kir ton passed through
Conway one day last week on his
way home from Florida, where he
had been speoding the last several
months.

plies for several days while they iutended
to soend the nights bv the
lonely camp fires on the bluff and r
regale thorn selves on the fish they
would catch. Wednesday night, pass
ed without serious trouble, plenty
of fish were caught with the aid of
tha guide, Mr. B F. Port, and the
party were living well in ?be free
and simple way, until Thursday
night when the sleet and freeze came
along. By mid-night their supply
of fuel had all been used and without
tools no more could be cut out (
of the large trees growing on ihj j
bluff. They suffered terribly with
the cold, and to make matters worse 1
a high wind came up Mr, Schorr '
was unused to such things and in j
the middle of the night became fright
ened, idle is accused of m iking his
first prayer, though Dr. Anderson
did not have much on him, as he was 1
too frightened to go after wate- by I

Church As a christian he was
without guile, yet strong and robust

a business man he occupied a unique (1

faithful, honest, and honorable. His ^
home life was beautiful Ho had no
fear of going to the eternal home.

auditorium of the Burroughs School

H W Lewis is now occupying his
new store on 3rd Avenue, having
made many changes in the interior

appearance of it. He has a large

On last Thursday evening the
weather became very cloudy and it
began to rain, turning into sleet
shortly after. Even the rain that
fell for a while froze as it clung to

Irish potatoes were recently planted
by the Myrtle Beach Farms Company
for the crop of 1913, by the
car load. The cold last week was
severe on them.
Miss Eulie Tisclale recently resigned
her position as stenographer
at the 1st National Bank, and has
accepted a position with a tourist
hotel near Henderson ville, N, C.
M A Royals writes that he is now
in his now home at Lakeland, Eia .
and that he is pleased with the mild
climate. He found Mie truck patches
in full bloom. He will bo glad
to hear from any of his home
friends.
Considerable damage was done
last week to the telephone linos in
the different sect ons of the
county by reason of the frecz),
