P JSLiSHED KVEKY Til (J USD AY MOttM.NO BY CON WAV PUBLISHING CO. tOKlPTION NK DOLLAR PER YEAH U, a WOODWARD, Editor THURSDAY FEBRUARY 6th 1913 Look out fc v the filth now while the weather is cold, or in the Spring you will be pestered with house flies. # ? * The sandy lands of this State are growing in value every year because the people have learned how to cultivate thsm and produce better crops from them. * * * ^ It is true that it seems impossible i to educate some people to the extent j that it appears to do them any good in the affairs of life. In such cases you have to think of what might have been without the learn- j intf. * < * * < The illicit sale of whiskey is a i thing hard to down. Let this be re ] membered by the town and county < authorities and lot them never hold i up in the efforts they are now making to control it, by severely punish , ing those who will engage in il. ( # * # Beware of the traveling agent who offers you a rauge or a hay press on easy terms, with no se curny except trie instrument itself. The price is always about twice what you could buy it at for cash at the store or direct from the maker. Our advise is to save up the money and buy it when able to pay for it at once. * * * Don't throw away your land through some scheme or ageucy with headquarters in some other State. Remember you have something valuable, and if you need it keep it for your children. * n * Try to make the crops in Horry County better this year than they have ever been before in its history, by the application of knowledge and intelligence to the planting and cultivation. Crops, as well as other things in this world, are not produced by manual labor alone. Remember this and use the brain in connection with the hand. * * # As Conway grows and the traffic necessarily increases on the Main Street of the town? the dust and microbes multiply falling into the sht 1 ves of the merchants and going in through the windows of the business offices, fcMill we fail to learn that the town has pi ovidrd for a street sprinkler which would relieve tbi- ' trouble to a v< r^ great extent, an< this too at small cost, * * * Some people have a perfect disgnsi lor small things But they should not. Even the most powerful things in the wor d are composed of atoms too {mail to observe with the naked tye. Never run down the little things. If you will observe it is often the most trifling disputes in the family circle that lead to the wides1 kind of a breach. And it is the lit ? , I _ t J 1 ! A 1 tie worries u: every uay mw tut* brings on old age faster than natun intended it, Never despise littli thing, no matter what you may b< considering. Large things are al ways made up of small. In some of the counties of thi State vihere farming has tern ca ried on for a longer time, there i nothing but cleared fields as far ai eye can reach, Time will be it Ho vry County when the forest have dissappeared and endless field lake their places. Whenever tha period arrives here, Horry Count; Hp. will be as far ahead of the rest o the State in agricultural develop I ment, as some other parts are now ahead of her. Too reason is that Horry County is m >re suited to farming than th o/aer sections, but the s'arted later by reason of the vast forest from which her people in the old days secured a sulli oienc incomo. * * * L ick of system in t'l} conduct of affairs is responsible m )re than any thing else for the dela^ in the accom plishmentof desired ends, and points the path to the reason for many a failure in this life, otherwise credited with having many advantages or success, There is no life where1 .?nf linira if a nfftnPP II SySlC'LU UUU3 uwii uu>u ? w?j ?|/v. place when correctly applied. Take a man engaged in the most ordinary calling of life, aud unless he has some system about his affairs, conducting them io regular order and meeting each situation that presents J itself, at the proper time and in the I proper way, he will be put down as j a failure, and not only will he be j judged as such, he will be a failure, in the true sense of the word and without room for any argument, Uf course more system is needed in seme matters than in others. It de ;iends of course on the kind of business that is being conducted. But io matter what the business may bo, we say that in order for it to sue-: 3sed th>e mu A bo system in the conduct of its affairs or it will be a failure. Just as system Is needed in the higher places of this life, so it ia needed aud absolutely required in alt of the small affairs, that is, if the j v?r?T?nii nrp in Vv> attain ' UOMI CU Ci'VO vuv. i x/ -w ed. The housewife in her daily round of duties, complex and baffling, though they may appear to her, needs system in the conduct of her affairs just as the greatest cap'ain of industry in this country needs it to apply in his enormous aff airs* With the brutes of creatioi man may learn a lesson of no small importance. With them system is applied as a matterof insiinck, a faculty necessarily placed within them by their creator. So far as mere man is concerned, it is supposed that he was supplied with an ac tive brain instead of instinct, and that he would use this brain with its many faculties in mapping out his daily life and work in such a way as to attain success therein, and be come a credit to his maker in whose image he was created. Remember that whatever vou do there is need for the use of the thinking mind and the making of system in your work or business that will bring the grea est possible results. ?
