There will be an efforts to pass a
law at this session of the Legislature
providing for a railroad fare of two
cents a mile. It jwill bring on a
great fight between the railroads
and their oppononts in the Legislature.
It will be found opposed by
many lawyers in both branches of
the assembly, these lawyers no
doubt, being now we migh oay, a
part and parcel of the railroads coin
panies' working forces, having been
retained by them In one capacity or
apolher.
It is said that a bill will be introduced
in the Legislature to einuow

er grand juries to swear all wi^eas i
es called before them in their inyes- ^
tigation of indictments. This will i
do doubt pass, and it should have <
been introduced and passed long i
ago. For all the years the solicitor <
has had to attend to this detail, and *
the grand jury had to wait until he ^
could attend to it, instead of being ^
able to go ahead within itself to per- ^
form the duties of the body. There ^
are many other changes that might 4

p wre much time and trouble in the ^
conduct of the courts.
