It. was the .'act that there were ^rreat tracts of uncleared lands ia the county whereon it was easy for the far mors to gr azo their herds. Ouly 0 binall proportion of the lands were cleared, and it was less costly to fence the small fields, than to inclose the lar^e pasuros. True that tho conditions above mentioned has changed of laic years to some extent. Farmers have enlarged their fields, new farmers have moved in and cleared up now lands. Cultivated in ids nave multiplied and enlarged on al) hands, which may bo observed by any one passing through the county. lint this development has as yet failed to r.^ach that place where the farmers can lay aside the fences, ami keep their cattle in pastures, or in stalls. YVe think that the time is uow fusi appro toning when the farmers will realize from the greatly changed conditions, that the fences should be done away with, and Horry County made subject to the general stock law of the State. The people of the county have always been divided on this subject. It has quite frequently been made an issue in the count', campaigns.
