tWM'' R'' Ca tta Herill to Task Rev J IF.'Stanley, a lifelong friend of the H srald, takes that paper to task as follows, in a letter dated August 26 ?tfc, U9i2. L?o ris, & C.. August 26 1912. "Dear T'ditor: ? I will not writ* in this short sketch anv thing but an exolanation to show to my friends that I vrsvs to blame why they dident hear from me on the Stock Law question, for my letter was placed with the Editor about. 2} weeks ago or in other words should of been printed weeks ago, now ror tup reasons I am not able to say, but it will appear to me and ray friends that it was to keep it out until after the election because I was a fence man what makes it look so is hecause Mr Jackson could get all his printed and mino was in first N' w the Public will not fail to see how it is for Mr Jackson is a s'ock law man. Now Mr Editor I have always been a strong supporter of the Horry Ilera'd, and I bow bate, to complain but in defense to myself and to my friends, that wn have as much right to ask Vou to fjrint our views as any other ma**. I was called on bv my friends in different parts of the county to write on thi? subject, and in response t-o the:r cell 'n go *d faith, I did so and now -n t i* '' that, wp ar? treat ?d unf-. J H Staulcy. If thi^re ever was a vapor that wanted to be fair to all of the people, that paper is the Horry Herald Though the paper may have been misjudged at times, still we can say conscientiously and truthfully, that since it belonged to its present owner, it has enueavored by all means ia its power to give equal rights to all and special privileges to none. We sincerely hope that Mr Stanley will not longer hold to bis evident belief that this paper wouiu leave out his article because the editor was in favor of the slock law. It is the belief of this paper, and has been for some time, that, the time is not yet when it would suit the people H ;rry County, to do away with their it-rices. H> nee Mr Stanley's article was directly in line with our vie^s, and he may rest satisfied that we had other reasons why the latter did uot appear. Now for the 1 reasons: 1?Toe assistant editor with whom Mr Stanley talked about the public cation of the article, had to leave for Norfolk, Va., to consult a specialist in regard to his health. He left hurriedly, so far as the editor ju chief was concerned, and the article was not found until it wa t oo late to get it in at the time 1 had been promised. 2?The space of any paper is limit ed. It cannot publish all thatcomes in for that purpose, no matter how important the matters may be. We have to leave out large quantities ever}' week. We only do the best we can, and on the eve of a primary it is worse than ever. We were so pushed for space that we saw no chauce to get in Mr Stanley's article until it was too late for it to do any good in the approachang election. It v;as a very long erticle, much longer than Mr Stanly his any idea that it is, and it would hare filled nearly three fourths of the front page. There were other things shorter, which people were clamoring to have published, and we did the best we could. We bad only recently published a long letter for Mr Stanley, leaving out martv other things in order to do it. We hope he will remember the favors we tried to do bim, unci not think hard of us, for as he says he has been a good friend, and we cannot aflord to refuse him any favor that it is possible for us to grant. We were still crowded this week, in trying to give the election figures, or we would have printed his article along with this. The assistant editor being concerned about bie health, no doubt neglected to gel tbeaiticie on the proper hook in toe U i it to b ve received the * pe c uu. jIo. wuid h'.v, der ' < ! ? ;of I.
