There is more Catarrh in this secj
tion of the country than all other
diseases put, together, and until the
last few years *\as supposed to be
incurable. For a great many year^
doctors pronounced it a local disease
aud prescribed local remedies, and
by constantly failing to cure with
local treatment, pronounced it incurable.
Science has proven catarrh
to be a constitutional disease and
therefoie requires constitutional
treatment. Hall's Catarrh Cure,
n manufactured by F. J. Cheney &
Co , Toledo. Ohio, is the only constitutional
cure on the market. It
is taken internally in doses from 10
drops to a teaspoonful. It acts
directly on the blood and mucous
surfaces of the system. They otter
one hundred dollars for any case It
fails to cure. Send for circulars and
testimonials.

E D Pearsall Tells of Three Varietiee
and Their History.
Wilmington Star.
Rocky Point, N. C., July 22 ?t
am sending you under separate cover
three samples of apples grown in
my orchard on "Greater Rocky
Point," The large, green variety
is the "Old Horse," long and favorably
known as the finest all-purpose
apple grown in North Carolina?the
ne plus ultra, t*be sine qua non, the
seek-no-further. I found them
growing last week on the mountain
side and in gorges on Black Mountain.
They grew equally as well,
possibly larger in Piedmont North
Carolina and I have grown them in
Eastern North Carolina (Duplin
county) to be five inches in diameter.
For cider, vinegar, fried, stewed,
baked, roasted, dried or raw,
they absolutely have no superior.
When pulled from the tree and
placed in a cool room, they impart
an odor aud tickle the palate as no
other Summer apple. Unfortunately
of late years ttie trees are titrated
with a black scab or rot in ih
fork whore the limbs branch en.
The grafted or budded tree of this
variety seems to be almost worih'e^s
on this account. I know of some
trees that were started from 'suckers"
(sprouts), that yet bear tolerably
full crops.
The striped apple Is known locally
as the "Westbrook Apple" and
originated by Mr. Jackson Wts brook,
of Harrison Creek, Pender
county. For cider, fry and apple
dumplings, it's ha^d to beat and is
extremely prolific. T imagine it is
a seedling of the "Summer Queen,"
whose characteristics ic closely resembles.
The large, red apple is known and
catalogued as the 'King Dickson,"
locally as the "Queen" (a misnomer)
It was originated by a forbear of
mine, Mr. William Dickson, of Duplin
county, who, when a young man.
about 1790, visited Old Man Jimmy

didn't take very skillful manipulation
on the part of the rustic swain
to count the seed just as he wished

couniing election returns), especially
if both sides were willing. Alas
those sweet old days are gone The
