We have been asked if there is a I Demonstration Farm in Horry, and, ! if so, where is it located? ? i ??? Pellegra, us a disease, is numbered among the has beens and the Hookworm is fast disappearing from the stage of action. Some other disease will soon lift its hydra head to scare timid people to death. Chemical analysis recently made has demonstrated beyond peradven j 1 :? ? ? ^ v tare that cotton seeu its uu *.-acellent food for work animals. Lest we forget we remind our readers that Conway is in all respects a very desirable site for the location of anto-date cotton seed oil mill and that now is the time to work it up. BO Evans, of Bowman, interestingly writes the News and Courier under a recent date, concerning his experience of an acre of peauuts. He gathered and sold sixty bushels at the average price of $2 60 per bushels. Besides there was about as many more caught by the frost. This beats cotton all to pieces and proves that it pays to plant peanuts And it has has also been proven, by actual demonstration, that there is no better land adap'ed to the cultivation of the peanut in the world than Horr3r dirt. Governor Blease vetoed the Act to investigate the Dispensary Investigating Commission. This is the Act that Thomas B Felder, the Atlanta attorney, threatened the Governor to floDd this State with blood and thunder literature exposing Governor Blease's connection with the ' alleged dispensary steal if he failed to sinn the Act within thirty days from date. The thirty days of grace have long since expired and as far as we know not a word concerning this intensely interesting matter has been received by a single cifciz n of this State. Georgia's cotton crop for 1911, according to reports received from the Atlanta Constitution from all over the State, will be from ten to fifteen per cent, greater than last year. This year's crop also is expected to be two or three weeks earlier, because of the early start the farmers were able to get with their planting. MolinaSHOOT , 0 Sf E PEOPLE FALL Robert Grainger, and a Lewd Woman Companion, Fill Themselves Full of Blind Tiger "Greased Lightning" and ^Terrorize a Community? One Man Dead and Another Wounded. The Whisky-Crazed Couple Arrested. The Chadbourn Industrial Advocate of May 4th, says: One of the most outrageous crimes that has ever been perpetrated in this community occurred at Grist-, two miles/ west of here, on last Friday night, when Robert Grainger shot Bud Nobles in the leg with a double barrel shot gun, the wound resulting in his death in the hospital 9t Wilmington, where he had been taken for treatment. The story is a strange one. It seems that Grainger was crazy with dri~'' and that it. wns his desire to see how mmy scalps ho couM take, xie Irst began shooting promiscuously from a buggy in which he and a woman by the named Mess MarJow were riding. The best \ e can gather from the many stories is that he then went to the home of Wiley Hammond, or near there, where he picked a quarrel with some negroes As a negro cannot stand the smell of gunpowder, they cleaned out for the woods. He then went back toward the railroad when he met Bud Nobles iL front of H L Stuther's home and fired both barrels into him, hittiog him in the muscles of the leg. He then ran down the road and as Wiley Hammond stopped to bind the wound of the injured man he fired back at him, several shot takiDg effect but none seriously, as he was too far away. During all this time, which consumed abont half an hour, the woman was with him assisting by way of furnishing shells and as far as can be learned, urginghimon. From all reports of her conduct she certainly must have been under the influence of whiskey herself, for no sane woman could have assisted in a thing of the kind. Dr Blake was summoned and had the injured man placed on train No. 50 and taken to tvilmincrhnn whprfi evervihinc was! ' ' ~ ?3 " ' J ?-i done that could be ^oue to save his life, but to no avail. He died Saturday night. Grainger wont to the home of Joe Tice, where he was arrested during the mght and brought to Cbadbourn ana lodged in the guard bouse until noon, when he was taken to the county jail at Whiteville. On Monday the woman was arrested and given a preliminary bearing before Squire Prince and bound over ,o court. Robert Grainger was born and aised near Wannamaker (Horry county,) S C. He had beeo in this neighborhood with the woman, *ho also lived in Scuth Carolina, but who had lived near Grist some two years ago, about two weeks when the tragedy occorrtd. Toe woman bore a bad reputatfon and this, together with Grainger's reputation, forms the basis of the trouble. It is simply a case of a drunken man "painting things red," assisted by a bad woman, with innocent parties suffering the penalty. BuL Nobles was well known in this ~ - " 4 - ?
