Conway Needs to Give the Residential Section Better Protection. Mr Editor: As is well known by every one Conway has been yisited during the past week by two fires, and they are reminders of our helpless condition to compete with th's great foe. In both instances our tire engine was useless because cf a lack of water, and this shows us the urgent necessity of fire wells in the resident portion of our town. Your scribe suggested that we utilize the waste water from our Artesian wells, and when this is not possible let us have surface wells. Theje. should be two feet in diameter and' bricked up to bold five feet of water , in depth. We have seen the^e wells ; in use sev ril years ago and they j would furnish water for a steam fire engine to put out an ordinary fire. I These wells were also supplied with pumps aud used by the citizens for d >mestic purposes. However, this was before the days of Artesian flows in our vicinity. We are pleased to learn that our city fathers have purchased an upto-date gasoline engine, but, gentle men, by all means give us more wa- j ter. All honor to our citizens who responded so nobly in the recent fires with the buckets, but see how we were compelled to carry water from a great distance, and had it not been for the railroad engine carrying a tank of water for the use of the lire fighters doubtless many of our citizens might have been homeless today. It will be too laie when our property has gone up in smoke to say what we might have done. Let us remember the old adage in times of peace prepare for war. Now, Mr Editor, your scribe has offered these few suggestions to try and arouse public sentiment for better protection against fire, with no din tutorial snirit in the matter. Let us call a meeting and organ- \ ize a tire company at once. We see j that our people are billing to help by the way they responded to a man , in our recent tires, Why, even the i ladies were carrying water in buck-? ets for some distance and doing other things within their power to render all the assistance they could. Respectfully, Cit'/.en. Saved Child from Death. "After our child had suffered from severe bronchial trouble for a year," wrote G T Richardson, of Richardson's Mills, Ala., we feared it had consumption It had a bad cough all the time. We tried many remedies without avail, and doctor's remedies seemed as useless. Finally we tried Dr King's New Discovery, and are pleased to say that one bottle effected a complete cure, and i our child is again strong and healthy."
