Richard Thompson. Richard Thompson was born March 8. 1882, and died April 4, 1911. Hi was born in Rucks townsh p and resided near Bucksville with his father the greater portion of his life. His kind and loving disposition not only made him a great treasure iu his father's home, bui one who was admired and loved by the many who kuew his sterling worth. iMr Thompson's death was a great shock to the community, ana Urn fact that the community realizes its great loss is seen in the s.ad expression on so many faces and hcaid in words of regret and sorrow. II udeath was caused by a blow on the head from a falling lunb which tie received while at work in the woods a few hundred yards from home, on Monday, April 8 and on the following morning about 9:H0 o'clock, death brought to an end his extreme sulfering Through the long d \rk night wo watched at his bedside, expecting death to come before daylight, but he lingered on until the light of day had dispelled the darkness of the night, but as all else began to stir with the life anct activities of a new day, he sauk into that long, lcne y nnri i r?H i cr>vi sltipn mill death. Sad indeed it is to come face to face with the visible evidence of the great Bible truth, "It is appointed unto man once to die" As we watched with intense interest and extreme sorrow the failing breath and weakening pulse and realized that nothing could be done, we rem mbercd what a frail thread our earthly existence and how helpless man is in the presence of death. All that we could do was to give our brother, loved ono and friend into the c\re and keeping of God and pray him to prepare us for that great cbauge which sends our soul into eternity and prepare our mortal remains for the grave. How complete would be the victory of the grave were it not for the glorious fact that, through Christ, life aud immortality have been brought to life? But as we behold this grert fact in the light of divine truth we can, with one of old, triumphantly ask the quost'on. 4 O! Death, where is thy sting r O! Grave, where is thy victory?" The remains were laid to rest in Hebron churchyard among relatives and friends who long ago took up thoir abode in this City of the Dead When the hour of interment came the weather was unfavorable and while nature's tear drops were falling from a clouded sky, we placed his body in the earth, and amid falling tears and the showering of llowers upon the new made grave was brought to a close the last sad act which wo could perform in his bebaif. fP f h a ^ h m ! n 4 I o n f Kama i r. m a rl aa 4 U iu i/uu vui lai itii 'iiiru, 1 s uu ucaiu, only an op?n door through which he passes out of time into eternity, a valley through which ho travels from the sorrow covered plains of earth to the divinely lighted hills of God. When earthly light and life grow dim Our bodies seek the ground, Then may our spirits rest in him, Where life alone is found. W II Barnes, Bucksville, S C., April 18. 1911.
