Tl-e Legislature Has Made Provisions to Have Some Old Records in the Clerk of Court's Office Re-Indexed, But So Far Nothing Has Been Done Toward Carrying Out the Law?The Matter Is Up to You, Mr Clerk. ^ An important matter, which sh uld be brought before the proper authorities, is the indexing of the old records in the Clerk of Court's office, under the act which was passed at a recent session of the Legislature. The grand j iry recommended the work to be uone, and as a result, the delegation passed the act, under which the work might be done without delay It was considered important because the old books were becoming worn, some of the i a. 1 . i. ?: .1; ? : u~.. iuuvt5"s turn, uuu iuch uuuui nun coming worse and worse as time went on, and yet no move has been made to get the work started, The work comprehends, as we understand it, the reindexiug of all the older records, under the proper heads', and in fewer and more comprehensive books. The work when completed, will bo appreciated by the attorneys, but the greater bene fit will accrue to the citizen, who so often, does not employ an attorney to look up his records, but undertakes to do this himself. Tt will bo simpler, and much easier to make a search. Those whose duty it is to put this act into effect and ha/e the work started, should wait no longer. Conway Methodist Church. It appears that Don Cupid, the God of Dove will now and then pla.v pranks on the human heart which often result in making confusion worse confounded. In this respict he entirely disregards the rules and custom-? of convention, and blazes out away for himself in order to oring two hearts which to all inents and purposes were as far a part as the poles to beat together in unison. He laughs at all obstacles vnd bushes aside as so many llimsy cobwebs the entmglements of the aw whenever and wherever they come i.- contact with his supreme ?. diets. An incident, happening here with in our midst, is a forceful illustration of the power and dominion of 'he mischievous little Gad in the Kingdom of Love. Jt is doubtless iresh in the memory of the readers of the Herald that a year or so ago an apparent prosperous and well-tod) merchant on one of the sidings of the Wilmington, Cbadbourn & Conway Railroad, mortgigid his property, and one lovely night skipped by the light of the moon with another man's wife, and Med to parts unknown, leaving behind the wife of his bosom and the deserted husband and numerous creditors to mourn his untimely departure. The husband ot the fl eing wife followered to Florida and there all iraces of the absconding couph were lost, and the much tangleo threads of love could not be again caught up and so the pursuit was abandoned. After remaining in tht band of Flowers for something ovei a year, the repining husband returned to his home in Horry and soon after returning sought a balm for his Ucer&'ed heart and wounded tnd aiT atio s in the company of the wife of the man who hid "vamoosed the lanch" the result was that he took her to the beautiful land of the ragrant orange blossom ben ^at<the Fountain of Perpetual Youth, where they are now living as man and wife. This is not the lirst time that his services have been secured by tue denomination in Horry County, as he was here several times before in revival meetings. Many friends of Dr. Martin remember him, when as a young youihful convert he was converted at Paulev Swanm church. His ability as a preacher of the Gospel cu d him to other fields where during the years the Master has blessed his work. He has grown in power and influence, and Horry is proud of him as a son. The S^uth Carolina Legislature is now in session, and it is very probab'e that many new measure* will be introduced as all the new memoors will want to made a record for tbomselves. Our Senator and members of the House, of course, will Keep Horry in the front ranks. We trust that the members of the Legislature will again lookout for the rural schools. It seems that our colleges always have friends enough to secure them liberal appropriations, but our common schools are somewhat neglected. Clemson college gets something like a quarter of a million dollars annually from the fertilizer tax. and 1 think it would be justice and equity to divide this lax equally between Clemson and the rural schools over our State.
