Mr Editor: If your columns are not too crowded with good roads next week please add one more short item to ihe tale end of the list. To say that Horry is a generation Holiind t he wot Id on roads would be I no information to any of us. The present system is too ancient to succeed in modern times and is as u> ju-o as it is ancient. For instance, T own a farm worth $5,000, Each of my tenants has to come up 00 as often a-. I do to build the road leading to town and making my farm do ible in value, which is all prolit to me and nothing to them, when 1 could pay the three dollars as one of thorn could pay three i cents. If the roads are the property of the county, why not the Treasurer tne county build and keep them in repair? Why didn't the overseers over the counly "warn out" their hands to bring a hatchet and saw and work 'i-... .x., , ruiu onni'l, luii]-,(*? t:i.\ IIU) i U'.i uvi' ? It the individual builds one the iudividual should build both. And now to the Honorable Delegation from H )rry. Gentlemen: We poor white folks and saw mill negroes are willing to pay the $11.00 along with the rich man, but the "six days" part of it you might cut out as there is too much leaning on shovel handles and telling smutty jokes or talking politics with the overseer. The time is made but no roads are made. Another thing, it seems too much like serving a sentence for failure to pay taxes. Tuen make the road levy live mills or such an amount as the necessities of the treasury demand, to guarantee good roads iu a reason able length of time, This would touch the pocket to our satisfaction of the wealthy, who would be most benefited by the roads. E.ich township should have the right to use its own money, supply its own "Commissioner" and matiipula'e its own contracts and machinery iu every way with probably the O ivof the Supervisor, A lively contest in road building between the townships and each using their own talent, their own brains and their own money would u~ i!.-.,, n A yacnlt in UO I II UCI COll uiiu ??v/mvA i *j 11? v ... good roads instead of b:g debts, slanderous criticism, universal com plaints, political collusion, newspaper controversies, conceutralization of power and wholesale dissatisfac tion.
