1 r^iiiaifcunnrr ?? ' ? ' ? - - - - Look! THE JBIG TUC O I I El? VJ ' To our friends and patron Marion counties for the pas don't forget the name and The Stan ?*; ' From Joiner Swamp. Mr Editor:?Will you please allow me space in tbe dear old Herald for a just a few more woids from this place as some one has asked through your paper for a hearing. We have had one wedding here since a writer froin Blanche recently reported. On Sunday evening, August 28th, 1!)10, at about 9 o'clock Miss Belle, the charming young daughter of Mr and Mrs A P Smith, of Blanche, was quietly wedded to Mr Guss Hicks, of Lynchburg. S. C. W L Alford, Notary Public, performing the ceremony. The young couple left the following day for fjynchburg where they will probably make their future home. The good wishes of their many friends go with them on their way, that their life may be one of unfading happiness and pleasure. The farmers have made a fine crop of hay in this section but some having cut their crops in the field and left it to cure, the last showers which fell during last week left their hay in a very unpromising condition. The public school at this place is now progressing nicely under the management of WL Alford. There was a spelling match here last Friday evening. Jasper Cannon and Dozier Ray lead the crowd in spelling. Dozier surpassing Jasper just ? J a lew worus. I feel safe in saying that we still have some faculty here that if cultivated will stand the test of the future. We have no pupils here who are the sons and daughters of rich parents, although we have some who are rich it? mental faculty, and we may have some patrons who arc somewhat rtchjrn.naed but of course we 'do no. loo* for any of this kind as we wantonly the genuine bonafi.rd taxpayer sruioily in our prospective and lovely county 11 >rry. People who are s i high minded nhnnh KP.ndinir Lbeir bovs and girls' to school always remind me of a certain story I once heard about a woman who did not have enough bread at her residence to sustain her and her family one week, but had some money. instead of buyin# bread, she bought a fine dr<ssp. She seat it first east and thence west to get a rich lady to make it for her but it was just iike a high rftinded parent in a school district, we have never heard any good that earn3 of it. I am glad to state that no such spirit is now in existence in our school here, but 1 mention this poiut because I have knowu such r?-hyoocrits as this to prove to be detrimental to the best interest of a school,, and think that the story mentioned abjve represents the r?rdnfc v<?r\l annroDriatelv. r" v? ? J t r ? - ? what has became of that young man who came out as a candidate for a county office from Polly Field's Some time better known as "The Fence Man." He seems to be better satislied with some fence and Razor back ham, th<*n with no fence better stock and corn uudisturbed by cattle wearing sp.^coacles to keep from walking over some nearby neighbor. No fool! no fun! the biggest fool has just begun! What does Skinner ^ think now about poor rich people in a poor rich county? They are very hard cases, that, is, it is a hard matter to understand what kind of people they are. Would like to hoar from the writer atBtyboroon some good subject.
