I Rill JIM! O Brown Shoots His StepMother and Himself. PROMINENT iN SOCIETY. On Account of a Difficulty in Dividing the Estate of J. S. Brown, the Husband and Father, Otis Brown Shoots His Step Mother and Then Kills Himself. Following heated words relativ to the settlement of the estate of J S Brown, their father and husband, OtisBrown,aprominent young society man of Oxford, N C., fired a revolver point blank at his step mother, Mrs J S Brown, and with deliberation and coolness then turned the barrel of the gun toward himself ending his existence, The would be murderer and suicide died instantly while panic stricken relatives and frionds lifted Mrs Brown from a pool of her own blood and summoned medical assist - i . i a Y ancei Physicians stated uiat sne has an even chance of recovery and later reports from her bedside state that the crisis has passed and her condition is much improved. ??Mre Brown is one of tho most prominent as well as wealthy wo men of this section and the tragedy has put the town in an intense state of excitement. The trouble, it is said, is of long standing, resulting from a dilliculty in settling the estate of J S Brown, husband and father of the two victims. KNOWN IN WILMINGTON. Mrs Brown was shot through the arm and tho ba-U entered tho body just above the heart. The tragedy is by far the most deplorable ever in the history of Oxford. There are three surviving members of tho family, Mrs Jin? Ployd and J W Brown, children of tho late J S Brown by a former marriage, and Miss Susie Brown, the only child of the second marriage. They have both visited there often, the young man having made his home there for a while.
